Presentation assembly
July 20, 2010

The end of term can be an exciting time for lots of reasons. During Friday’s presentation the awards for pupils of the year were given out, with each winning child receiving a £10 voucher for Argos. Sisters, Megan and Emily also had the chance to show their medals they were awarded for singing and dancing competitions entered in their own time. Directly above are all of the children who are leaving the school this year, which leave with our best wishes for a happy future. Finally, the last picture shows most of our school eco team, which were called up to the front to acknowledge the hard work they have to maintain our green flag status this year.

14th July 2010.
Dear Parent, With the school breaking up for the summer holidays on Friday, 16th July at 3.30pm, it just remains for me to say a few big ‘thankyous’ for what has been another excellent year here at the school.I would like to congratulate the classroom staff for the tremendous grades they achieved in the quality of teaching and very high standards that the inspectors witnessed being produced by the children during those lessons. Thanks to yourselves as parents for your support during the inspection and the governors also for the input that they had. The children were keen that the school was successful and this was a pleasure for all of us at the school. Emotions stirred by the Infants Christmas Concert and the Juniors Carol Service, were as strong as ever and the outstanding performances that the children gave in our very own Wozard of Iz is a credit to them and the staff that work so hard to prepare them for the show.DVD’s of which are on sale now for £3.00, see Mrs.Lisa Davies in Class 3. The sporting teams competed well with the rugby team getting to the final of the Small Schools’ Cup and the cricket team performing particularly well again to reach the semi final of the Mid Glamorgan County Championships. The school has grown over the course of the year. From November we will have a pre nursery class which will be lead by Mrs. Sian Williams from Class 1, allowing us to take in all three year olds after their third birthday throughout the forthcoming year. A variety of trips have enhanced the children’s learning but not always been smiled upon by the weather. A number of improvement projects are planned both internally and externally to the school over the next few weeks and, during the autumn term, we hope to go ahead with an extension stretching out from Class 2 towards the picnic tables, giving our infant children more space in which to learn through the foundation phase strategies. The new PTA Committee have been very active this year and have done tremendously well with fundraising. The disco last night made a profit of £300. Thanks to you all.A big thanks to all you parents who have supported the school so well again this year, helping us to help your children. At the end of the year it is always sad to say goodbye to our Year 6 pupils, all bar one of whom are going to Y Pant Comprehensive. They have been a pleasure to have at the school and we wish them all the best for a happy and successful future. Don’t forget Year 6, whether you are successful academically or sportingly, we want to hear from you.I would also like to say a thank you and a goodbye to Mrs. Jenny Prewett, who has been working in Class 6 in the mornings for a couple of years now and has been a valued member of the team during this time. Finally could you please note that we have been advised from Catering Services that meal prices will increase from September 1st to £9.25 per week, £1.85 per meal. I would like to wish you all a very happy and safe summer holiday and look forward to seeing you and the children back at school on Monday, September 6th.Yours faithfully,Mike Emanuel (Head Teacher)

The end of term is always a busy time of year and this term has been no exception. This was shown at the celebration assembly on Thursday where rewards and prizes were aplenty. As well as the usual weekly class awards the year 6 writer of the year award was given to Megan as recognition of the wonderful creative and narrative writing she has produced this year. All children who walked to school on Wednesday as part of our new WOW initiative were given a certificate and goody bag. All of the junior swimmers were presented with their distance awards and Chloe received a brand new bike thanks to the cycling proficiency team that visited our school a few months ago. Well done to all of the children!

7th July 2010.
Dear Parent,
The events are coming thick and fast as the end of term approaches. The Summer Fair held last Saturday was one of the most successful financially for quite a while, with over £1600 being raised in the event. It was also a smashing social occasion and I would like to thank the PTA committee for all the hard work they have put into it, the parents who brought attractions and ran stalls on the day and everyone who helped run stalls, set everything up and put it all away, making the management of the day such a success. The day wouldn’t have been such an event without everybody coming along to support it and spend their hard earned money. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff for coming along on what is a very busy time of the year for them.
Sports’ Day, held on Monday was a lot of fun as usual, with all the children getting opportunities to take part in a number of events. In the Infant sports it was great to see the growing confidence of the children as they matured through the department and in the juniors congratulations go to Gwynno who won the event for the first time in seven years. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the children and this is a good reflection of your encouragement of them.
On Tuesday, assessors arrived to see whether we were doing enough to retain our Eco Green Flag status and we were delighted to find out that we were. Special thanks go to the Eco committee of Chloe Booth-Jones, Seren Kane, Megan Rees and Daniel Griffiths, along with Mrs. Warrilow and Mrs. Penberthy, who put in such a lot of additional effort in order to keep awareness of these important issues continually on the boil.
The swimming gala which was held in Llantrisant Leisure Centre today, saw three teams competing instead of the usual five and on this ocassion we were runners up to Pontyclun, who were the winners. Once again it was a very enjoyable event.
Currently we have quite a number of coats that occupy the cloakrooms at the end of school days and with the end of term coming I would like to remind parents, especially those of you whose children are leaving, to come and check the coat racks in order to take home any coats belonging to your children before we break up for the summer term.
Some children have been bringing into school “Match Attack” trading cards. From today such cards are not to be brought into school as it is causing problems with cards going missing etc.
Please can you ensure that no further cards are brought into school before the end of term.
Tomorrow WPC Louise Daniels will be visiting the school to do a unit called Taskforce, with Class 3.
The reports for this year will be given out tomorrow afternoon at 3.30pm and I would like to thank all the staff that were involved in the writing of these reports. We have tried to sum up the achievements of the children in each of the subject areas and also suggest some ways forward with which you can help them in the important areas of maths and language. There is a section in each report on which you can write your comments relating to the report and these can be returned to school if you wish, for consideration by the staff.
There are no Parents’ Evenings planned for the end of this term, though if you require any further explanation of matters in the reports please contact myself and I will get back to you relating to them.
The school trips will take place this coming Friday. The junior trip will leave Gwaun Ruperra Car Park at 8.00 am sharp and leave Legoland at the close of the day, probably around 5.30 pm. Traffic permitting this will mean a return to Gwaun Ruperra at 8.00 pm approximately. Please ensure that someone is there to pick up your child at this time if they are unaccompanied on the trip.
The Infant trip to Manor Farm Wildlife Park will leave at 8.30 am from Gwaun Ruperra Car Park and will leave the wildlife park at 3.30 pm, meaning an arrival time back here of approximately 5.30pm. Again, please ensure that if you are not accompanying your child on this trip, somebody is there to pick them up.
On Tuesday, 13th July we will be holding our end of term disco for the children at the school. The disco will start at 5.00 pm and finish at 8.00 pm and has an Hawaian theme. We are hoping as many will join in with the spirit as possible and come in fancy dress for this occasion.
On Wednesday next week, the Year 6 pupils will be at Y Pant between 9.30 am and 1.00pm. A mini bus will pick them up from Gwaun Ruperra Car Park at 9.00 am. This is an athletics festival event and the children will need athletics kit and a packed lunch and drinks for the occasion.
On Thursday next week at 4.15pm we will be holding our final cricket match of the year at Miskin Cricket Club. We will be playing a combined Pontyclun and Penygawsi team and our match will precede a charity event there between a select Miskin 11 and a select Cardiff Blues 11. The senior match begins at 6.00 pm. There will be a barbeque and refreshments available for spectators at the ground and it is a great opportunity for the boys to have a lovely social event to end the cricket season. This is a smashing venue and even if your child does not currently play cricket, it is well worth while going along for the occasion.
The Year 6 Leavers Assembly will take place at 2.30 pm on the same afternoon, that is Thursday, 15th July and it would be lovely to see all Year 6 parents, some of you for the last time, on that date.
Finally throughout the year dinner money has been brought in on a number of days other than the required day of Monday. Can I ask that on this last week of term you make a special effort to bring your payment in on Monday so that all the accounts can finalised for the year.
Yours faithfully,
Mike Emanuel
Head Teacher.

Dear Parent, On Thursday afternoon at 1.15pm, Mark Sheridan from Tabor Baptist Chapel, will be coming along to take an assembly with the children. On Friday Class 4 will be at Cardiff Bay for the day, whilst on Friday afternoon the Class 2 assembly will take place at 2.30 pm. The school Summer Fair will begin at 11.30 am on Saturday morning. This is a super social event at the school and always an excellent fundraiser for the school funds. With England out of the World Cup and Wales home from New Zealand, there is nothing to stop all you Dads coming along accompanying your children and having a great day out here at the school. School Sports Day is on Monday, 5th July. Infant’s sports will start at 9.30 am whilst the Juniors will begin at 1.30 pm in the afternoon. We would be grateful if you could send your child in suitable clothing and footwear for Sports Day. The children may bring a drink in a plastic bottle, marked with their name. Everyone is welcome to attend. On Tuesday evening at 7.00 pm at Y Pant Comprehensive, there will be a meeting for parents of pupils in Year 6. Please make every effort to go along as this will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have and maybe to gain some important information prior to your child starting in September. The Inter School Swimming Gala will take place on Wednesday, 7th July at 9.30 am at Llantrisant Leisure Centre. Our team has been selected for some time so please ensure that your children have checked the notice board at the junior entrance to see whether they are swimming and that they have their kit in school for the gala. Bathers rather than shorts would be preferable for this event. On Wednesday afternoon, 7th July, there will be a Celebration Afternoon for Leavers for the children in Classes 5 & 6 who are moving on to new schools in September. This will begin at 2.00pm and parents of all children in these classes are invited along. The accommodation and class groupings for next year have been decided upon and with the school growing as it is, we are setting up a new class from November 1st 2010. This will be a pre-nursery class, which will be sited in the room currently housing Class 5, with Class 5 moving across the activity area into the room currently occupied by Class 6. Class 6 will be moving to the language support class which is currently being used by Mrs. Cowley. Classes 1 – 4 will stay in their current classrooms. Class 1 will have children of nursery and reception age, Class 2 Years 1 & 2, Class 3 Years 3 & 4 and Class 4 Years 5 & 6. Reports are due to go out to the children in all classes on Thursday, 8th July with the school trip on Friday, 9th July. Any outstanding trip money needs to be paid as soon as possible as we are £500 short in payments and we have already paid Legoland. Lots to think about over the next week or so. Yours faithfully,Mike Emanuel (Head Teacher.)

Website Upgrade Summer 2010
June 28, 2010
During the summer months the School website will undergo several key changes including a complete redesign. The new site will allow us to have more interactive photo galleries, upload files that can be viewed and downloaded by parents and children including the new School prospectus, and better search and filing of information that will make it a lot easier for everyone to find exactly what they are looking for.
During the upgrade process, the site may be unavailable for short periods (a half day here and there) but we will make every effort to keep it online for viewing.
The new website will be fully operational before the start of the new term.

Dear Parent, It’s been a really exciting week here for the children at the school. Yesterday, the cricket team played in the finals of Mid Glamorgan Kwik Cricket Competition. There were 16 teams at the tournament, all of whom had won qualification tournaments. The teams were divided into four groups of four. The winners and runners-up in each group progressed to the quarter finals. As has been the case in recent years, our team performed extremely well on the day. We won our pool, winning all three games comfortably and won the quarter final by even more. In the semi final we came up against St. Claire’s Public School from Porthcawl and this was an extremely close game, St. Claire’s having two players in the Welsh national squad and although I think that we were the better team overall and got ourselves into a winning position, we failed to press home the advantage and lost narrowly . In so doing, we just missed out on qualifying for the Wales finals at the SWALEC stadium for a remarkable third year on the trot. The team did themselves and us proud and I would say that we are the only team that we came across with strength right throughout the ten players. Congratulations to all the players for the standard they have reached and the challenge for those still with us next year is to go that one small step further. Most of the cricket team were then involved in the schools’ production of the “Wozard if Iz” , the first performance of which was last night. This spoof musical, written by David Owen, was performed with a great deal of enjoyment by the children. The fun they had in what they did was evident and it was an absolute pleasure to be there as a member of the audience and laugh along with them. I am looking forward to the second performance of the show tonight and those of you who have not yet seen it are in for an absolute treat. The challenge for the children is to keep up the high level that they achieved last night. Thanks go to the PTA for their support, Mrs J Jones & Mrs Lamerton, Mrs.Lloyd and Mrs. Nerys Jones, Mr. G. Prosser, Mrs. Louise Prosser and Mrs Jenny Lax. Thanks also go to Mrs.Lisa Davies, Mrs.Lynda Cowley and Mr. David Owen. Congratulations go to Jarred Bull, Rhys Jones and Thomas Burr who were all prize winners in the art competition for the Beating of the Bounds. On Friday, Class 1 will be performing their assembly. This will start at approximately 9.30am. and on Friday afternoon there will be a pre-intake seminar for parents whose children are starting with us next year. Tomorrow is the final date for the payments for Legoland. We will be sending off a cheque for the tickets on Monday. The children in the winning group for the Dragons Den project for this year, will be going down to Y Pant on Monday at 12.00 noon for a buffet lunch and a presentation to the Dragons. Whilst on Tuesday next week Year 6 will be visiting Y Pant as part of the transition programme but the Year 5 visit for E3+ is being cancelled due to the fact that too many children would be involved on the day. Tuesday will also be a moving up day in school. With Year 6 at Y Pant it’s an opportunity for the children to move on to the classes in which they will be next year. Yours faithfully,Mike Emanuel ( Head Teacher)
