Newsletter 30th Jan 2008

January 31, 2008

Dear Parent,

Our links with the community are proving very useful to the pupils in school at this moment in time. On Monday afternoon PC Tony Parker came in to talk to the children in Class 4. This afternoon the Rev. Viv Parkinson has been kind enough to talk to Class 5 about baptism at the church.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is very wet and as a result the game vs Dolau is going to be postponed until Tuesday 5th February 3.00 pm kick-off , hopefully on the Llantrisant Rugby Football Club field. The game is our first round Pontypridd Schools’Cup match. The netball team will also be playing against Dolau with the fixture being held in our school yard at the same time.

There will be a Learning Support Class panel meeting at the school on Tuesday morning. Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Owen for stepping in last minute and going along with Mrs. Sian Williams and the children, who are taking part in the ski trip, for their first ski lesson at Cardiff Dry Ski Slope yesterday. All the children I have spoken to thoroughly enjoyed it and I am sure the lessons will stand them in good stead for the trip later on in this term.

Yours sincerely,

Mike Emanuel

The Sound of Music - Proposed School Trip

January 23, 2008

Dear parent,

As you are probably aware the junior children will be performing “The Sound of Music” in a few weeks time. As it is currently being performed at the London Palladium we were thinking of arranging a trip to see it.

The only matinee performance during the week is on a Wednesday afternoon at 2.30pm. when Connie Fisher, unfortunately, does not take the leading part. Still, we don’t think that matters too much.

We are thinking of going on Wednesday 27th February. We would probably leave about 8am and arrive home around 9.30pm. This would give us some time when we get to London to see some of the sights and have lunch. The cost of good theatre seats are £22.50 for children and £45 for adults if you would like to come. Edwards buses have quoted us a price of £640 for a coach.

Based on these figures, if  we were to fill the bus the total cost would be around £35.50 for a child and £59 per adult. We appreciate that this will be quite expensive. But if you’ve won on the lottery recently you may still wish to come! If you are intrested and we hope you are, could you please fill in the slip provided and send it back into school by Friday if possible.

If you need another slip, please let us know.

Many Thanks,

Mr Owen and Mrs Davies.

Newsletter 23rd January 2008

January 23, 2008

Dear Parent,

The children in Classes 3 & 4 are going to Techniquest tomorrow, they will be  leaving school at 10.30 am.   A packed lunch is needed for the day and a maximum of £2.00 spending money,  as indicated in Mrs. Davies’ letter sent out last week.

The children in the Reception and Year 1 age groups are going to be treated to a road safety play on Thursday afternoon at 2.00pm. This will be performed by the Spectacle Theatre group.

From my perspective it’s great to see the staff taking the opportunities to provide the children with a variety of experiences,  both inside and outside the school, making use of the opportunities in the area in which we are fortunate live.

On Monday next week, Class 5 are visiting Daerwynno Outdoor Centre. An information note for Class 5 children is attached, outlining the needs for and purpose of the day.
Also attached is a letter about a trip to London to see the Sound of Music. This trip is open to those in the junior department initially, as these are the children who can be involved in the school’s production.

Next Wednesday afternoon the children in Class 5 will be going to Llantrisant Church to find out about baptism from the Rev. Ian Hodges.

A reminder that Steve Powerderhill, from Broadway Studios, will be taking St. Davids’ Day photographs on Monday the 28th of January,  during the morning session. If you wish your child to be photographed you will need to send him/her to school in Welsh costume on that day.

Can I remind you that dinner money is due on a Monday, payable in advance of your child taking their mid-day meal.  The cost of a meal is £1.40 for infant children and £1.45 for juniors, all cheques for dinner money should be made payable to R.C.T.C.B.C.  All other cheques for trips and uniform etc. should be made payable to the school.  Can I also request that when you send Tuck money into school you do so in a separate envelope,  marked “tuck shop”, with your child’s name written clearly on it.

Many thanks for your continued co-operation,

Yours sincerely,

Mike Emanuel
Head Teacher.

Newsletter 16th January 2008

January 16, 2008

Dear Parent,

This is an exciting week at the school with the launch of the new school website. Mr. Chris Thomas, a school governor and father of Olivia and Christopher, has been kind enough to put a lot of time into its production. It goes online today and the website address is www.Llantrisantprimary.co.uk.  This weekly letter will be found on the website and subsequent letters also.

If you have any wellington boots or plastic macs that you no longer want and that would be suitable for the children to use outdoors, could you please send them into school to be used during lesson times.

Class 2 will need tee-shirts, shorts and trainers for Tuesday afternoons so that they can get into the routine of changing for P.E. and the Wednesday morning lesson for Class 4 will now take place on a Tuesday afternoon for the remaining 3 weeks of this half term.  Please ensure that the Class 4 children have a warm enough top and a change of socks and shoes,  as the grounds of the school are very wet at this moment in time.

Class 5 have had an exciting day today with their visits to Techniquest and St. Fagans. It was nice to see them come in role as Victorian children for their afternoon at the Victorian School.

There will be rugby training after school tomorrow,  again it is likely to be indoors due to the weather. We are due to play a Pontypridd Schools’  Cup game as soon as possible and this will be played when the pitch is playable.

On Monday next week the Rev. Viv Parkinson is going to come along to the school to talk to the children about “Weddings”. Thanks to those of you who have sent your wedding photographs in for the children to look at and to build up their understanding of this ceremony.

The next uniform order will be sent off on Friday 25th January. Mrs. Tricia Gilheaney has now taken over the ordering of the uniform, so you will need to contact her or complete an order form along with a cheque/cash placed in an envelope with her name on it.

On Mondy morning, 28th January Steve Powderhill from Broadway Studios,  will be coming to school to photograph the children in St. Davids’ Day costume for the Llantrisant Observer. Please make a note of this on your calender as the children will need to be in costume to have their photograph taken.

We are looking for somebody to look after a little girl from one of our Learning Support Classes over the lunch hour at school. If you are interested in doing this please either speak to myself or Mrs. Warrilow as we would be pleased to hear from you.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Emanuel
Head Teacher.

Welcome to our new website

January 7, 2008

I am pleased to welcome you to our new website.

I hope that you find it informative if you are new to our school and that it helps you keep even more up to date with your communications if you are already part of the school community.

A big thank you goes to Mr.Chris Thomas, parent and governor, for putting this all together and to Mr.Simon Johnson for giving Chris the bare bones with which to work.
