Dear Parent,

The run in to the Easter holidays  is going to see quite a number of events here at the school. On Friday afternoon we have the Eco-School multi coloured Swap Shop where we are asking children to bring in school jumpers that no longer fit, football boots, toys, books and other items that you think may be reuseable by other children.  On this theme, we are also trying to collect old British coins and notes, keys, mobile phones, costume jewellery, foreign coins and notes in order to help save for the Guide Dogs for the Blind and work towards our school eco-green flag for which we are having an assessment this afternoon.

On Monday afternoon Mrs Lax will be coming back along to the school to help the children rehearse for the Sound of Music production. Thanks very much Jenny. On Tuesday evening there is going to be a Governing Body Meeting at the school.

On Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 pm the infants will be performing their assembly entitled Say No to Bullying, which has been the PSHE theme covered this term.   Also on Wednesday at 6.30 pm there will be the Easter Party and fancy dress for the children, prizes being awarded for the best outfit. On Thursday, because of the Sure Start Programme that we are going to continue at the school, the junior assembly on the theme of Say No to Bullying will also now be at 2.30 pm.

On Sunday 6th April, Cancer Care Cymru, are holding a canter and children’s fun run in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. This promises to be a very entertaining event which starts at 10.30 am. If you would like to take part in the event entry forms are available from the school. The school breaks up for Easter at 3.30pm on Thursday, 20th March. The staff will return on Monday, 7th April and the children will return on Tuesday, 8th.

On our return after Easter,  Miss Davies will be returning to Class 2 after illness and although a little prematurely I would like to thank Miss Julie Evans for the sterling work she has done in the absence of Miss Davies.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Emanuel
Head Teacher.

Dear Parent,

I am pleased to report that after a short time off-line our web site is now up and running again. The website address is  www.Llantrisantprimary.co.uk.

On Friday, 14th March at 3.00 pm we are hoping to run a multi-coloured Swap Shop here at the school. We are asking the children to bring in old school jumpers, toys, books and rugby boots that are in good condition. These will be exchanged for one voucher for each item and then the vouchers can be exchanged for another toy, book, pair of boots or jumper in the Swap Shop. This will again be an element of recycling for our eco-school award.

As you are aware we have sent out invitations for the Parents’ Evenings to be held next  Monday and Tuesday. If you have not yet received your invitation please contact the school.  Can you please inform us if you cannot keep the appointment to enable the staff to reorganise their timetable.

The Sure Start activity held last Thursday morning was an absolute pleasure to see. Thanks to those of you that brought your pre-school children along,  I hope you passed the message on to friends and family about how good it was and I hope to see even more families involved tomorrow.

We have a very busy couple of weeks on the staffing front with lots of members of staff out on courses over the next week or so.

There will be a Governing Body Sub-Committee meeting and full Governing Body meeting next week  together with the forthcoming Parents’ Evenings.  This makes it a very busy time for the teachers at the school.

Finally could I ask you if you would be kind enough to make a donation to the annual Easter Hamper.   Any contributions would be very much appreciated.

Yours faithfully,
Mike Emanuel
Head Teacher.

Dear Parent,

We have got an active few weeks on the sporting front approaching. Next Monday afternoon, we are hoping to have a couple of the stars from the  Rhondda Rebels ladies’ basketball team in shool to coach the children in Years 5 & 6. Please could you ensure that the children have PE kit for the yard on this day. This coaching session is to help the children get more enjoyment from a cluster basketball festival at Y Pant on Monday 10th March.

The children going on the skiing trip will have their final ski lesson on the dry slope in Cardiff on Friday at 4.30 pm and will be returned to Gwaun Ruperra Car Park at approximately  6.10 pm.  The ski trip itself will be leaving Cardiff (Wales)  Airport at 6.45 am next week.  The children will need to be there by 5.00 am. As you are aware,  you are making your own arrangements to get them there by that time.

Due to a staff meeting there will be no rugby training after school tomorrow.

Friday will be St. David’s Day in school. It is a non-uniform day and we are looking forward to seeing the children in their interpretation of Welsh dress.

In preparation for World Book Day, the children in Class 7 will be going to Borders book shop on Tuesday.  Wednesday the children in Classes 4 & 5, who are not involved in the ski trip, will be going on an environmental trip to a water purification centre in Cardiff. Further details of this will follow.

As you are aware there will be Parents’ Evenings held in school on Monday, 10th March and Tuesday, 11th March.  If you would like a particular time,  which could be up to 7.15 pm,  please send a note in with your child tomorrow and we will do our best to get as close to this time for you as possible.

French club is available at school now, from Monday to Thursday for 15 minutes per session. If you would like your child to participate, please complete an enrolment form.

The next term begins on Tuesday, 8th April and finishes on Friday, 18th July. There are 13 weeks at £5.50 per week. The total fee for next term is £71.50 which should be paid to Monsieur Olivier Raison (French  teacher)  on completing the enrolment form.

For new children the total is £81.45 ( this includes the learning pack).

Finally Thursday, 6th March is World Book Day and the children will be receiving a £1 voucher which will entitle them to select from a range of books  from a number of top book shops. To celebrate this day we will be encouraging the children to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book.  We would also like the children to practise reading a paragraph from their favourite book, if they are able to do so, they can then read it to their class mates at some stage during the day.

These activities, combined with the trip to see the Sound of Music and the interactive science production of ‘Robokid’ to classes 3, 4 & 5,  give real breadth and stimulation to the children and we hope enrich their school experience and give them a greater desire to learn.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Emanuel (Head Teacher)
