Dear Parent,

Congratulations go out to our cricket team who qualified for the National Kwik Cricket Finals through the County Final paly-offs yesterday at Miskin Cricket Club.  All the boys involved played very well. It was an exciting day and Llantrisant Primary will be one of two teams representing Mid Glamorgan in the all Wales finals.  To celebrate this I have booked a bus, not only to take the team down to the  SWALEC stadium,  but also for any junior child who would like to go and support the team.

The bus will be paid for out of PTA school funds, so there will be no cost to any child. The children will need to take a packed lunch and drinks for the day. We hope to arrive back by the end of the school day but this will be dependent on the weather and how the competition progresses.  The bus will leave Gwaun Ruperra Car Park at 8.30 am, so anyone wishing to go will need to be there by 8.20 am on Tuesday morning. Please fill in one of the attached reply slips if you would like your child to go on this exciting event.

The final costings and charges are now in for the junior Fun Activity Day at Llantrisant Leisure Centre. The cost of the day will be £10 per child. We need to know who is going ASAP in order to arrange the groupings.  I have spoken to the junior children and let them know that they will be split into mixed groups of six children for the activities and also the range of activities that they will be able to enjoy during the day.  Please will you fill in the attached slip if you want your child to take part in this novel trip and return the slip to school tomorrow, if possible, so that groupings can be finalised.  Full payment needs to be made by the 9th July to confirm your child’s place. Both our school trips are due to take place on Friday 11th July. The infant trip to Bristol Zoo is now completely full and there are no spare seats on the buses. If your child is entitled to Free School Meals and you require a packed lunch for the day, please could you  inform your class teacher by Friday of this week so that meals can be ordered.

Years 5 & 6 have gone to Cardiff Bay today as part of the Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship. The date of the infant “Change” assembly has had to be put back to the afternoon of Tuesday, 8th July at 2.15pm. This is due to staff commitments in other areas. The assembly will be followed by a seminar about the much publicised Foundation Phase. The seminar will be led by Mrs. Sarah Bromham and if your child is nursery/reception age in September, this seminar would be particularly relevant to you.Yours faithfully,

Mike Emanuel (Head Teacher.)

18th June 2008.

Dear Parent,

The children in Key Stage 1 seemed to thoroughly enjoy the ‘Funky Junk’ workshop which was held this morning and  paid for by money raised from events like the Summer Fair which was held last Saturday.

The Summer Fair  was a great success and we were very lucky with the weather, which stayed fine right up to the end. It was a busy day for nearly all the stalls and I would like to thank those of you who came along and brought your children to the event allowing us all to have a bit of fun together and raise money which is put to good use for your children.  Special thanks go to Angela Ryan, Cerys Jeffery, Hazel Penberthy, Gelda Morgan and the other parents who helped to organise and promote the event which really was successful on all fronts.  As soon as we have the final total raised, I will let you know.

Over the next few weeks, I will keep you up to date with the organisation of the school for next September and I can start off this week by giving you the final staffing arrangements and pupil groupings for the forthcoming term. The nursery/reception children will be in Class 1,  the staff with them will be Mrs. Bromham, Mrs. Sian Groves/Williams, Mrs. Sian Williams and a new member of the team,  funded by the Foundation Phase funds from the Welsh Assembley Government, Mrs. Theresa Bowen, so giving us three adults in the class on a full time basis.  Mrs. Bowen’s role has changed greatly over her years at the school and I would like to congratulate her on this latest appointment. There will be 26 pupils in Class 1 when school starts in september.
Class 2 will contain all the children in Years 1 and Year 2 in the school, the class will be taught by Ms Suzanne Davies with 25 hours support per week from Mrs. Hazel Penberthy. Hazel has also fulfilled a number of roles at the school in recent years, but now will be working a far higher proportion of the week.
The children in Years 3 and 4 will all be with Mrs. Lisa Davies from September.
The children in Years 5 & 6 will all be with Mr. Owen.
Mrs. Cowley will continue to run the reading support programme at the school. This programme is second to none in the authority and we are pleased to be able to continue with it.  The learning support class staff will remain as Mrs. Lamerton, Mrs. Lloyd, Mrs. Warrilow and Mrs. Jones.
Myself , Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Williams, the secretary will continue in our current roles also.

Arrangements for the Breakfast Club have not yet been finalised although I am confident we will have something in place for September. When further details are available I will let you know.  There may also be some after school child care provision available.

If you have any uniform requirements, Mrs. Gilheaney will be sending an order off to the suppliers on June 27th,  so if you need any items of uniform for September please ensure you complete an order form,  enlosing your payment and either pass it on to Mrs. Gilheaney, or give the order to Mrs. Williams, school secretary, by Friday, 27th June.  Order forms are available by the main entrance and are pinned on the notice board.

There are going to be spare seats on the buses to Bristol Zoo, if you would like to include more adults or children then can you please get your deposits paid by Friday of this week at the very latest as after this date we will close the booking.  The trip is taking place on Friday, July 11th and we will be leaving school at approximately 9.00 am and arriving back in Llantrisant at approximately 6.00 pm.
The junior trip will be a dynamic day of fun at Llantrisant Leisure centre. The children will experience ten different actitivities including: bouncy castle, squash, salsa dancing, aikido, badminton, fun in the pool and several more sessions to excite them. This idea came about to try to involve as many children as possible as our last theme park trip only involved about 60% of the eligible pupils. The cost has not yet been finalised (it should be confirmed by Friday) but it will be significantly less than a theme park visit. The trip will be on the same day as the infant trip, Friday, July the 11th.

I have had reports of head lice from children in Classes 1, 2 and 7 this week. Please could you all check your children’s hair and if you find any, you need to treat all members of the family. If head lice are seen in school we do request that children are picked up in order to stop further spread of these irritating creatures.

Tomorrow, P C Tony Parker will be coming to school to work with the children in Classes 3 & 4 and on Friday he has arranged for Class 5 to spend a day at |Barry Island to further promote some of the messages he has been giving the children over the course of the year.

I would like to remind you that we have an  “Open Day” for the nursery next Monday, after school. This is intended particularly for parents of children who have not yet been admitted to school and if you know anyone in this position, please invite them along on our behalf.  We have made a number of flyers to distribute in the local area and I hope that you will br prepared for your child to post them through some doors in your near neighbourhood to promote the event, if asked.

After a dip in our teacher assessment Key Stage 2 SAT results last year, I am pleased to say that the results this year are a lot better and are at the higher end of our local authority and national range. Well done Year 6.

Finally, on the celebration front, we were delighted as a school to be awarded with our Eco Green Flag last week. The Eco Committee took some very thorough assessors aournd the school and must have felt a bit like the candidates from The Apprentice on their interview day, with the number of questions they were asked and the thoroughness of the inspection that was undertaken. The ECO committee , as usual, did us all proud and due to the work that has gone on, led by Mrs. Warrilow and  ably supported by Mrs.Hazel Penberthy , the assessors decided to award us with this very prestigious standard which from now on will be displayed on our school headed note paper as you can see above.

Well done everyone, if we hadn’t all worked together we would not have succeeded.

Yours faithfully,
Mike Emanuel
Head Teacher.

11th June 2008.

Dear Parent,

There are only three days to go before our school Summer Fair.  The children are really looking forward to the range of games and challenges that are on offer to them from 11.00 am on Saturday morning until approximately  2.00pm. We are still looking for items to help give the fair its usual breadth of interest, we need bottles and tins, raffle prizes, items for the white elephant stall, including books and toys in good repair, envelopes for the lucky dip [filled with a variety of surprise prizes],  plus the usual buckets of good will without which the day wouldn’t be such an enjoyable success.  The raffle will be held at about 1.15pm so that you parents, not to mention the staff,  who want to get home in time to see Wales’ second test against South Africa, have a chance to do so.

Things are still going on behind the scenes to organise the junior trip for this summer, but the infant trip has been organised and buses booked for a visit to Bristol Zoo. Seats are limited and will be reserved on a first come first served basis. Please send in your deposit of £10 per person to avoid disappointment. Today we have sent two cricket teams along to the Kwik Cricket tournament at the Sobbell Sports Centre in Aberdare. I hope its been an enjoyable and successful day for those involved.

On Friday the Rev. Chris Burr will be coming in to school to take an assembly for all the children. Having done the CAT tests for Y Pant this week, the Head and Assistant Head of Year 7 at Y Pant, Eleanor Johns and Sally Owen, will be in school next Tuesday, as part of the transition programme,  to speak to Year 6 and Mr. Owen.

Next Wednesday, there will be an opportunity for the Key Stage 1 children to enjoy a Funky Junk workshop presented by Timezones. This type of event is paid for from the money raised at P.T.A. events like the school summer fair. I look forward to seeing you all at the Summer Fair on Saturday, for what we hope will be another day of fun in the sun.

Yours faithfully,    Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

Dear Parent, Here we are just ten days away from the school Summer Fair for this year. It was a fantastic fundraising event last year and we are all hoping it will be just as good this time around. Don’t forget we will want bottles, tins, articles for the white elephant stall,  but most of all people to come along and make the fair a very enjoyable one.  We need people to run stalls and families and friends to come along and enjoy all the activities that are available on the day. Congratulations to Tom Ryan who has been picked on two occasions now to represent our county in cricket, and on this note the annual Asda National Kwik Cricket Festival will take place next Wednesday, 11th June 2008 between 9.30 am and 1.00 pm. The children will be returned to school before the end of the school day.  The festival is being held at the Michael Sobell Centre in Aberdare and transport will be provided,  but the children will need a packed lunch for the day.  Mr. Johnson will inform those that are playing. If you are able to come along and support the team on this occasion you would be more than welcome. Congratulations also go to Megan Prewett who has continued her excellent progress with dance and performance,  winning a national competition and going on to the next stage. Thanks to Mr. Ian Lewis, dad to Emma & Jack, for once again improving the computer stock at the school. We are very fortunate to be able to continually upgrade the quality of the hardware by donations of this kind. The Pre-School Group will continue to run for the last half of this term . Mrs. Carpenter puts a lot of preparation into every Thursday morning and we are very grateful  to her for this.  Those that come along find the activities and the opportunity for their children to get some experience of our school very helpful. Next Tuesday,  we will be having our final Eco Assessment on which we will be judged for our Green Flag Award. The children have helped by turning off lights, taps and putting litter in the bins here and we are hoping that these things,  along with the hard work they have put into it,  will see us finally achieve the award.  The eco committee,  led by Mrs. Warrilow and ably supported by Mrs. Penberthy, have put a lot of time and effort into this project and I would like to thank them for their efforts whether or not we are sucessful. Classroom structures, organisations and staffing for September are now nearly in place. When arrangements have been completed the information will be passed on to you.  This will also be the case with the arrangements for the school outings being arranged for this summer.  The juniors are to have a very different but hopefully very inclusive day event, whereas the infant trip will be arranged as soon as possible. We will keep you informed. Yours sincerely,    Mike EmanualHead Teacher
