Dear Parent,

The summer of successes continue at Llantrisant Primary School. The excellent end of Key stage 1 and Key Stage 2 assessment results have been followed by outstanding success on the sporting front.  As you know the school cricket team played in the Asda Year 6 Kwik Cricket County Tournament at Sophia Gardens yesterday and under the beautiful blue skies and glorious summer sunshine the boys performed brilliantly, against some really top opposition, to reach the final of this prestigious tournament. Through the pool stages and the knock-out section each member of the team made a match changing contribution in at least one of the games.

The semi-final and final matches were of a very high standard and the whole tournament came down to the very last bowl where Lewys Ryan had to stay in to ensure victory for our school. There was tremendous tension amongst the supporters and I am sure Lewys was feeling the pressure and against an excellent bowler he defended the last ball skillfully to win the tournament. The celebratrion when the boys lifted the trophy and got their medals at the end were a pleasure to see.  As a result of this the boys have qualified for the England and Wales national finals at Grace Road, Leicester which will take place on Monday, 14th July. This will be another fantastic occasion in what’s turning out to be a brilliant end to the term. We will hope to organise a coach to go along to support them on this occasion and I will keep you informed as to the costs and timings when they are arranged.

Congratulations also go to Megan Prewett who won the design competition with Tesco’s recently and received 10,000 computer vouchers for the school. We need a new colour laserjet printer for the junior department and these vouchers will probably be enough to allow us to get one.  Well done Megan and thanks very much. Annual reports will be given out on Friday. My thanks go out to all the staff for putting so much time and consideration into them. Special thanks go to Mrs.Kaur, Mrs.Carpenter, Mrs.Warrilow and Mrs.Williams, who put the reports together for the children in Class 2.  We have already had two series of Parents’ Evenings earlier in the year, in order to ensure you could help your children with their progress so no formal Parents’ evenings have been arranged for the Summer Term. The reports are meant to be a summative record of what the children have achieved over the course of that year.If you need clarifcation on any of the comments made in the report please contact the school to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher.

DVD’s of the Sound of Music will be available from Friday 4th July.  If you would like to purchase one, the cost is £5.00 each.  Please return the slip below and send in £5.00 if you wish to purchase a DVD of this special performance. On Friday next week, the children have their trips for this summer.

The junior trip to Llantrisant  Leisure Centre is organised to start at 9.30am. If possible we would like you to drop your children off at Llantrisant Leisure Centre at 9.10 am on that morning, to save them walking down,  and pick them up at 3.10  pm. Those of you who are unable to do this can drop them in school at the normal time and they will be walked down by members of staff.  Please fill in the attached slip below to indicate which option you will be taking so that we can plan for the day. Please remember the children will need full sports kit i.e. t-shirt, shorts, socks, trainers plus swimming costume and towel. Final payment for this trip will need to be made by next Wednesday, 9th July and the cost is £10. Anyone who has not returned the slip to school please send them in for us to finalise all the arrangements.

The remaining cost of the infant trip to Bristol Zoo will be £4.00 per adult  and £2.50 per child for entry into the zoo. This is reduced as the bus costs have been less than anticipated and we have been able to compensate on the admission fees to the zoo.  Can you please send in the outstanding balance for the trip by Monday, 7th July as the trip is on the following  Friday, 11th July?  We will be leaving Gwaun Ruperra Car Park at 9.00 am and returning at approximately 6.00 pm.

Tomorrow is the last day of the pre-school playgroup due,  to next weeks Sports Day.Mrs. Lisa Carpenter is leaving us next week, Friday July 11th,  and in September will be attending Bristol University to study her PGCE. We wish her every success with her course.  I would like to say a big  thankyou to her for all her work in Class 2 and the support she has given the school and thank her for running the pre-school group on a Thursday morning also. On Friday morning Years 5 & 6 will be going to Y Pant to sample the E3+ activities that are available to them next year.  The children here have not benefiited greatly from these opportunities this year due to transport issues but there are plenty of opportunities there for them for next year if they enrole early enough and you are prepared to take them along.

This might be something to think about ready for the cold,  dark evenings to come during the winter months. The Y Pant  Cluster Swimming Gala is taking place next Tuesday at 9.30 am at Llantrisant Leisure Centre. If your child is swimming and you would like to come along,  this is always a very exciting event that everyone involved with enjoys very much. After the gala Class 5 will be going along to Tesco’s in Talbot Green.

On Tuesday afternoon at 2.15pm there will be the Infant “Change” assembley. Children will be performing some of the work they have done on the theme of “Changes”. This is part of the work we do in school on personal and social education. Tuesday evening will see the end of term disco starting at 6.00 pm in the school hall and ending at 8.00 pm.  Entry will be free for adults and 50p for children.

Next Wednesday morning,  there will be a new intake visit into Class 1 for the children starting in the Autumn term.  A member of the Y Pant Maths Department will be coming along to do a practical investigation with Class 5, also next Wednesday,  which is part of the transition programme. On Thursday next week the infant Sports’ Day will begin at 9.30 am and the junior Sports’ Day will begin at 1.30pm in the afternoon. The Year 6 children will have spent the morning at Y Pant so this is another busy day for them. Olivier’s French Club will continue in September. The timetable for lessons is unchanged and lessons will be held Monday to Friday at 3.40 pm for infants and 4.00 pm for juniors.  The fees are £5 per week  for 14 weeks totalling £70. What a couple of weeks its been and continues to be at the school – fantastic times!!

Yours faithfully,

Mike  Emanuel
Head Teacher.
