22nd October 2008.Dear Parent,The Eco Committee at the school met on Monday this week to discuss this term’s theme of Healthy Living. One of the ideas proposed was that we ask for a parent volunteer to join this committee to bring forward further suggestions and opinions that represent the way parents would like to go. If you would like to be part of this team please contact your child’s class teacher and let them know by Friday. Thanks go to Llantrisant Rugby Club and particularly Nick Woods for allowing the schools in this area to use the field this afternoon for the inter-school rugby matches. The format will allow all the teams to play a number of games and will give everybody a chance to practise the skills that they learn in training every Wednesday. The Tag Rugby Festival planned for this Friday has been postponed due to organisational problems. I would also like to thank the staff, who have stayed late on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week in order to meet with you for Parents’ Evenings. I hope you all found them informative and helpful and that they have given you a platform from which to help your children over the course of this year, as by working together we will achieve what we all want, which is the best for the children. We hope you found the fruit packs from “Crewmint” a good idea. The packs will be on sale as tuck shop after half term. We would like some feedback as to whether or not you would be happy to purchase these fresh fruit packs and the charge would be 40p per pack. Please return the slip below if you would be willing to send this money into school each week for your child’s tuck. The School Council, made up of some of the junior children, have requested that we look into milk cartons for junior children. The infant children are entitled to free milk supplied by the authority, but the junior children would have to pay 20p per carton per day. We would need a commitment of £1.00 per week for each child who would like milk in the morning break, as we would have to order a set amount of cartons per week, which could not be altered on a daily basis. Please complete the slip below if you would like your child to receive milk during the morning break (Classes 3 & 4 only). We are still looking for your favourite recipe that you use with your children for inclusion in the PTA Christmas Recipe Book. Can you please send them into school by Friday. French lessons will be changing slightly in that a new program has been developed by Mons. Raison which has been professionally designed for young learners and is activity based with songs, games, stories, drama and role play, including an insight into French culture and way of life. The costs would be £3.00 per child for a one hour lesson per week and if there are fewer than 12 children the cost would increase to £4.50 per hour. Individual lessons can be provided at a cost of £6.00 per child. If you are interested then please let me know as soon as possible. School will break up for the half term holiday at 3.30pm on Friday afternoon. Can I thank you all for your support again this term, and especially the children for there excellent behaviour and efforts. I hope you all have a happy half term holiday and we look forward to seeing you back in school on Monday 3rd November 2008.Yours sincerely, Mike Emanuel(Head Teacher)

15th October 2008. Dear Parent, The Autmn term Parents’ Evenings will be on Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday next week. These are always very well attended and are probably the most important set of Parents’ Evenings of the year. The staff will aim to tell you, not only how your children are doing at the moment, but also how you can help them to progress throughout the rest of this academic year. Invitations have been prepared, if the time on them isn’t convenient please let us know, and we will make every effort to arrange an alternative time for you. Rugby training will be taking place at our pitch this evening. The next rugby ‘round robin’ event will take place next Wednesday afternoon at Llantrisant RFC. Can I remind you again that if you have any Flora greaseproof covers or token numbers, you can bring them to school for Mr. Chris Powell or register them on line. The PTA are hoping to put together a Childrens’ Favourite Recipe Book for Christmas. Please could you help your children put together a recipe and return them to school by next Wednesday for inclusion in this book. The new school lunchtime menu accompanies this letter. The children do not have to have school dinners 5 days a week and can be selective, having them only on the days when they like whats on offer. As well as the menu there is always a salad bar option and baguettes filled with either ham, cheese or tuna. There will be a special ‘Best of British’ menu at Friday lunchtime and this will be toad in the hole with carrotts, swede, potatoes and gravy followed by a choc ice or open apple pie and dream topping, or fruit yoghurt. Please also make a special note and remember that dinner money is due in on a Monday and dinners should be paid for in advance. Debbie Burleigh, the school cook, will be providing a ‘taster session’ to promote school dinners on Monday and Tuesday during Parents’ Evenings. She will also answer any questions you may have on school lunches. Mrs. Alison Williams will bring along some samples of fresh fruit packs, which will be available to taste, as a possible alternative to the fruit tuck shop. The cost would be 40p per bag and include for example, apples, melons, grapes and pineapple The Year 6 children will be going to Y Pant by 8.30 am on Monday morning. They will need to make their own way there. This will be a combined transition day with Llanhari Primary and the children will return back to Llantrisant by 12.45pm in time to have their school lunch or a packed lunch, as normal. There will be an Eco Committee Meeting at 12.45 pm on Monday and on Tuesday one of the PE and School Sports Co-ordinators, Carys Kizito will be at school to help some Year 6 children train as playground leaders. Yours faithfully, Mike Emanuel(Head Teacher)

8th October 2008.
Dear Parent,
The children in Class 4 seemed to have been thoroughly engaged by Spectacle Theatre’s presentation of “Boy”. This type of activity and the one PC Tony Parker will be doing this afternoon “Taskforce” with Class 3, are designed to make the children think about issues that affect their lives and help the children to achieve values from the schools’ mission statement – having respect for themselves and one another. Tomorrow, Linda Killick, the NSPCC organisor for schools, will be coming along to thank the children and, through them you, for your efforts in fundraising for this organisation. You have raised over £800, which is a fantastic effort for a school of our size. Well done!
Any outstanding envelopes will need to be returned in the morning to complete the event. Involving the children in charities like this and making them aware of the use that the money is put to, helps develop their toughtfulness and humanity. Could all boys who have trained for the rugby team this year bring their kit for a match against Pontyclun ‘B’ tomorrow. The match will be away, so if you are able to provide transport for the match, please let me know early tomorrow. Please remember to bring your certificate of insurance along with you.
All pantomime money has to be paid by next Monday, 13th October, as seats will be confirmed, booked and paid for on Tuesday next week. If you would like to come along, you will need to reserve your seat and pay in full by then. John Newman, the school photographer, is collecting the photograph orders on Friday, so if you have not returned your envelope, along with your order, you need to do so tomorrow.
Can I remind all parents of children who take school lunches, that any dinner money cheques need to be made payable to R.C.T.C.B.C. All other cheques for trips, events etc. need to be made payable to Llantrisant Primary. The bank will not accept cheques for lunches which are made payable to the school. The school will be closed on Friday for the staff to start working on changes to the curriculum brought about by the new National Skills Curriculum 2008 orders. This is a massive project in itself but is part of a long process taking place at the school where the focus is moving away from teaching to learning.
The success achieved by the cricket team last year is going to be recognised at Miskin Cricket Club’s presentation evening. This is to be held at the Athletic Club in Pontyclun, this Friday evening (10th Oct.) at 7.30pm. If your son took part in the finals, please bring him along at this time, with the medal that he won for winning the South Wales Championship. Tuesday and Wednesday morning next week will give the parents of Year 6 children a chance to visit Y Pant to see the school working. This is part of the transition programme.
Also on Wednesday next week, P C Tony Parker, will be coming along to do an interactive learning activity with Class 4. Finally, a big thankyou goes to the officers of the PTA, who were able to present the school with a cheque for £2500, this week. The money was raised last year through a range of events they organised and that you and your children, local businesses and friends and family supported. Congratulations everyone. The money will be used to enrich your children’s school experiences.
Yours faithfully,
Mike Emanuel

Dear Parent,
Next week is National Walk to School Week. If you live outside the area and usually bring the car this would be a good time to start leaving it at Gwaun Ruperra Car Park. I think we could fairly count this as your child walking to school. The children in most classes have completed their NSPCC fundraising activity. I was with the children in Class 4 when they did their fitness circuit and I must say their efforts were very impressive. Please could all NSPCC envelopes be returned to school by Friday morning.
Last year one of the units the children worked on to achieve the Eco Flag was Energy Conservation. As a consequence of this unit of work, we will be having thermostatic valves fitted to the radiators in the school and two new radiators put in in the Class 2 activity area in order to heat the school more evenly. There will be a PTA meeting on Friday afternoon at 3.00 pm in the staffroom. All parents are invited to come along to give suggestions for activities for this term for the children.
The pantomime seats have to be paid for before the half term holiday so could you please send in the remaining outstanding balance by Monday, 13th October. The total cost of the trip is £11 per child and £17 per adult. You will need to deduct the deposit you have already paid from this amount.
On Tuesday next week the health visitor, Cath Jones, will be coming along to speak to the children in Class 6 about healthy eating and on Tuesday afternoon the children in Class 4 will be treated to an interactive presentation of Roald Dahl’s “Boy” by the Spectacle Theatre group. This will be paid for by money raised by the PTA. On Wednesday PC Tony Parker will be running a workshop for Class 3 entitled “Taskforce”. These additional activities give a bit of breadth and additional interest to the children and, hopefully, further develop the learning skills we are promoting in the school.
Yours faithfully,
Mike Emanuel
