19th Nov.2008Dear Parent, The weeks seem to be passing by very quickly in the lead up to Christmas,  with rehearsals for the concerts already starting in school. The date for the junior concert has had to be changed and will now be on Wednesday, 17th December at 7.00 pm in Llantrisant Church. This change is due to the availability of the church.  The infant concert will be held in school on Wednesday 10th & Thursday, 11th December at 1.30 pm.  The junior Christmas tea party will now be held in school on Thursday, 18th December and,  like the infant Christmas tea party which is on the 15th December,  will be a non uniform day for those children involved. A big thanks to Mr. Bailey for putting the stage up in the hall. This requires quite a bit of work and extra time from him and gives the children in the infant department plenty of time to practise their positions and get used to using the stage. The Christmas Craft Fair will take place next Wednesday after school at 3.30pm. If you have any items you would like to donate to the sale,  we will be very grateful for them,  but most of all we would like you to come along , bring family members and make the event an enjoyable and successful one. The fruit tuck shop seems to be going very well. There will be fruit on sale every Wednesday if the children would like to bring in 40p to purchase a bag. Currently we have got loads of lost property in school and on Monday and Tuesday after school next week we will put any unlabelled property in the hall for identification  and collection.  In order to try and keep what’s left at a manageable level,  we will put anything not claimed on sale in the craft fair on Wednesday. This afternoon there is a‘round robin’ rugby festival to be held at Llantrisant Rugby Club. Thanks to Nick Woods at Llantrisant  RFC  for his support for these events, giving lots of local youngsters a chance to play for their schools by providing the venue. Tomorrow afternoon,  Thursday, the Rev.Viv Parkinson, will be taking an assembly for all the children and also tomorrow afternoon  the police community officers will be coming along to school to take ‘SAFE’  lesson 3 with Class 4.  The netball event held yesterday was well organised and enjoyable for the children. Over the course of the year three more events like this will improve their netball skills and an additional event will provide them with the opportunity to use these skills in a competition.Yours faithfully, Mike Emanuel, Head Teacher.

November 5, 2008

5th Nov.2008 Dear Parent, I hope any celebrations you have in mind for Bonfire Night tonight, go safely, happily and well for you and your children. The whole event seems to be going on over several weeks these days, but I am pleased to say that so far we have had no reports of any injuries or accidents. I hope this remains the case tonight. After the interest shown on Parents’ Evening in the fresh packet fruit, displayed by Mrs. Alison Williams, the fruit packs went on sale today for the first time at a cost of 40p per pack.  The thirty six packs which were ordered went quite quickly, we will buy more packs for next week. The different packs that are available are, apple and grape, melon and grape, pineapple and apple. Tomorrow afternoon PC’s Jen Huish and Mike Perry will be coming along to raise children’s awareness about some of the life choices they will face in the next few years. This is part of the “Safe” programme that will culminate in a presentation at Y Pant Comprehensive on January 28th at 6.30pm. Can I ask and remind you once again please not to bring your cars down the school drive at 9.00am and at 3.30 pm for the safety of all children. On Monday we have an “Open Door”  assembly presentation and two student teachers from UWIC will be starting their placement at the school.  One of the students we had last year made a good impression on us, Miss Ashley Bobledyke, and as a consequence has been invited back to the school to cover Mrs. Davies’ maternity leave which is due to start a week Monday. Can I remind parents that we like the children to change into their P.E. kit, which is simply shorts and teeshirt,  and the days the children need to do this are as follows:- Class 2 Tuesday, Class 3 Monday, Class 4 Wednesday & Thursday. I would like to thank the four candidates who stood for election to the school governing body. Two new parent governors were elected, these were Mrs. Catrin Edwards and Mr. Jonathan Gilmour. Congratulations to you both. Please note that the school will be closed for the children on Friday, 14th November, when the teachers will once again try to get to grips with planning issues in relation to the new Skills Curriculum which is being introduced this year. Yours faithfully,                                     Mike Emanuel (Head Teacher)
