10th December .2008  Dear Parent, The week of events in the lead up to Christmas kicks off today with the Infant Christmas Concert. The costumes you provided for your children are absolutely lovely and add to the whole spectacle beautifully. Thank you all very much.  A big thanks to Miss Davies who selected the play and largely organised the main practices and to all the other staff in the infant department for helping to practice the group sections of the performance. Most of all a big thanks to the children without whose enthusiasm and effort these events would not take place. On Friday afternoon,  the children in Year 2 will be going along to Bethel Baptist Church in Pontyclun to take part in activities entitled ‘Christmas Wrapped Up’. The  PTA fund will be paying for transport on the day, as this could not be organised,  so buy plenty of raffle tickets for the Christmas Hampers at the Christmas concerts please. On Sunday afternoon the school choir will be singing at Llantrisant Church at 3.00 pm and on Monday evening at 7.00 pm  in front of Marks & Spencers,  raising money for the school and for charities. A note from Mr. Owen is attached with more detail for those children who are involved in the choir. The Infant Christmas Party will be on Tuesday afternoon. It will begin with a tea party involving sandwiches, crisps etc. and these will be in place of their usual school Christmas dinner. This is the first time we have gone down this route with party food. The food will be set out in buffet style and will be available to all children having a school dinner on that day. The charge for each child is £1.40 per meal, the usual cost of a school lunch, so if you would like your child to participate in the party food please send in £1.40 if you do not normally pay for school lunches. The infant children will be able to wear party clothes on the day, as a special treat and the same arrangements will apply for the juniors on the Thursday, when it will be their turn to come to school in party clothes and have a buffet lunch.  The cost of the junior meal will be £1.45 if your child does not normally take a school lunch. On Tuesday lunch time,  the junior meal will be fish & chips and on Thursday lunchtime the infant meal will be also be fish & chips.  This will be because of the preparation time necessary for the buffet for the parties. On Wednesday morning,  the children will be treated to a Christmas Puppet Show run by the local church group and lead by Vicky Blythe and next Wednesday evening the juniors’ Christmas Carol Service will be held at Llantrisant Church starting at 7.00 pm, again no tickets will be required for this event,  which is one of the highlights of the school year. On the last day of term, our traditional pantomime trip will be taking place. A big thanks to Mrs. Lloyd who has spent a lot of time, once again, organising the trip and collecting the ticket money for it. More details about departure times etc. will follow next week.   On this occasion we would like the children to be in school uniform so that they can be more easily identified on a busy Christmas shopping day in Cardiff. Yours sincerely,   Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

3rd December .2008  Dear Parent,  In the lead up to Christmas at the school,  last night’s children’s disco was really good. A big thanks go to Ross Gunton, for being a super disc jockey and giving his time free for the children, to Angela Ryan, Cerys Jeffery, Pat Thorn and Gelda Morgan for the extra effort they have put in to give the children another fun night. Well done to the children also for the good spirits that were evident at the disco. On Monday, Howard Bilton, from Tabor Baptist Chapel will be coming along to take an assembly on the ‘Christmas Story’ and at 3.00 pm there is a sub-committee meeting of the Human Resources Committee of the Governing Body to look at some staffing policies. Also on Tuesday morning Mrs. Bowen will be taking the netball team, between 9.45am. and 11.45am., to the University of Glamorgan,  for a second visit to the skills training session.  Any parent who can help with transport please see Mrs. Bowen in Class 1.  On Tuesday afternoon Class 4 will be taking part in two lessons in our Substance Awareness for Everyone programme. These will be the two final sessions with the local police,  prior to the SAFE presentation on January 28th at Y Pant Comprehensive at 6.30 pm. Finally for this week the first of our concerts will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30pm. This will be the infant concernt and there will be a second concert on Thursday afternoon at 1.30pm. Wee will be delighted to see you at the concert and no tickets will be needed for entry.   Yours sincerely,   Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

Newsletter 26th November 2008

December 3, 2008

26th Nov.2008Dear Parent,  We are planning to have a bit of a facelift in the foyer and entrance to the school and as part of this we are going to have a new blue carpet fitted. We have bought the carpet and now need to find a carpet fitter to put it in place. If you know of anyone who is able to do this and prepared to fit the carpet on the last day of this term, Friday 19th December, please contact me at the school as soon as you can. A big congratulations go to our Tuesday night dance group for their recent performance at The Parc & Dare Theatre in Treorchy. The group, called mini movers, performed on the 18th and 21st November and the dancework achieved by the children over nine weeks of rehearsals was oustanding. Louise Prosser, the dance instructor, would like to thank all parents for supporting the workshops and give a special thanks to Ceri Griffiths and Hazel Penberthy for their help backstage with both groups.  Miss Davies from Class 2 went along to support the children on the night and was thoroughly entertained and enthralled by the way they performed.  The after school dance classes restart on Tuesday and these shows give the children a chance to show all the skills they have learned during this time.  My thanks go to Louise, she puts a lot into dance at the school, not only on Tuesday evenings but on Wednesday mornings and the children are really getting a lot out of it. Over the next few weeks a photographer from RCT will be coming  to school to take photographs of the school and the children taking part in various activities for some publicity material that we are about to produce. The material will be used locally to let everybody know a little bit about our school, but if you prefer that your child’s photo is not used in this material please let me know.  I hope most of you read this letter in time to come along to the Christmas Craft Fair being held this afternoon in school. Thanks very much for all the items you have sent in for the stalls and the donations you have made for the Christmas hamper. Thanks also go to the volunteers who are coming in to run the stalls, I hope everybody else will come along and support the PTA and your children. We’ll all be in for a treat if the atmosphere and spirit of the event is as good as it was last year. I have had notification of a couple of incidents of headlice in Class 4 and Class 2. Please check your childrens’ hair but also ensure that if you find any,  you treat all of the members of the family. There will be a meeting of the Eco-Committee tomorrow at 12.45pm in the Key Stage 1 activity area. If,  as a parent,  you would like to come along and be part of these meetings please feel free to do so. Jo Clifford from Llantrisant Model House will be coming along to do practical art activities with half of Class 4 on Thursday and the other half on Friday. On Tuesday next week,  Cath Jones, the school nurse, will be coming along to talk about healthy eating with some of our younger children.  The end of term Christmas disco for the children will start at 6.00 pm also on Tuesday, 2nd December. It’s a little bit earlier in the term this time,  so that hopefully, everyone still has enough energy to enjoy it. Yours sincerely,   Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.
