Class 5 are busy this week, making Easter cards and going on an egg hunt around the school. All the children are excited about this week’s SEAL assembly, which is held on this Wednesday at 2.30pm.
Today, class 3 were lucky enough to visit a Jewish synagogue in Roath, Cardiff. They had a talk from the Rabbi there, who talked about all the beautiful things they could see in the synagogue. As we entered the synagogue all of the boys has to wear Kippahs to cover their heads. All children really enjoyed the opportunity to see this aspect of Jewish life, which they have been studying in religious education this term, in person. We look forward to further class visits of this type.
On Wednesday 1st April Class 6 will be involved in the Infant Assembly at 2.30 p.m. Parents and Grandparents are invited along to watch. We look forward to seeing you.
This Wednesday our SEAL assembly will be about ‘Going for Goals’. All infant parents are welcome. The assembly starts at 2.30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
18/03/2009.Dear Parent,This coming week is one packed full of exciting events and activities both in and out of school for many of the children. The Year 6 children set off for Kingswood this morniong. This outdoor adventure centre gives the children the chance to get to know pupils from other schools who will be starting in Year 7 at Y Pant in September. It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends and take on new challenges as well as making the transition to a new school a more comfortable experience.Tomorrow, Year 5 will be doing similar team building style activities at Daerwynno. Mr. Owen will betaking the group up for the day and I would like to thank Y Pant for the use of their mini-bus once again. I would also like to thank Mrs. Tricia Gilheaney, who will be taking the extra few children who won’t fit onto the mini-bus.Classes 2 & 3 will be using the school grounds tomorrow and will need to bring suitable footwear and clothing that they don’t mind getting muddy. They will be looking at and building animal habitats in the school grounds. These activities will be led by a French exchange teacher who is working at the DareValleyCountryPark. The PTA is looking for parents in each of the classes in school, who will be prepared to help out with the selling of tickets and the distribution of materials to other parents with children in the same class. This way we can ensure that everybody has the opportunity to attend all the events which are run to benefit everybody.A Saturday Soccer programme is being run by Evolve Sports in Tonysguboriau Primary School, for boys and girls aged 4 – 11 years. If you are interested in taking your children to this session please telephone Helen Crocombe on 07966750319 or pop down this Saturday. The meeting place is the school car park at 9.45 am, the cost is £5 per session or £22.50 for a block of five sessions. One of the families living close to the school has again complained about the inconvenience and annoyance being caused by inconsiderate parking across driveways and blocking entrances to houses. The narrowness of the roads around the school make parking an issue and I have requested many times in the past that parents park at Gwaun Ruperra Car Park and walk the children from there. I understand those of you with babies to bring along when you drop off older children would find this very difficult , particularly in wet weather and its to this end that I request only those of you in this position or with very young children who are notsafe near roads, park in the streets close to the school. In other words, that with your co-operation we operate a system very similar to that operated in Tesco’s where there are mother and toddler spaces or mother and baby spaces for those that need them most, near to the school. Good relationships between the school community and our neighbours are important and I would ask you to establish these practices now that the weather has improved. This will also improve the safety of the children as cars parked on the pavement at the end of the day tend to force them out on the road and this has to be a real concern to all of us. It was great to see Scott Andrews captaining the Wales Under 20’s to their first win of the six nations on Friday night and to see how well he clamed down his team mate who was being yellow carded. It was also great to see Bradley Davies win his second cap when he came on against Italy in Rome. Well done boys.I would like to thank Dave, from the bullring stores, for the fantastic photograph of the two players that he has donated to the school and which is now on display in the newly carpetted entrance way. A final well done to Creegan Griffiths and to James Bull who represented the school so well on their visit to the Vale to meet the Welsh squad a week last Friday. When Creegan was askedin front of Tom Shanklin, Huw Bennett and Adam Jones , who his favourite players were he said Shane Williams and Lee Byrne, to which Tom Shanklin replied “Oh, none of us then” and Creegan was quick enough to get himself out of the situation by saying, “No, but you are my brothers’ favourite player”. The boys thoroughly enjoyed their opportunity given to them by the BBC Sportsround programme and were stars for a day.Yours faithfully,Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.
I am prepared to be one of the class reps for Class ______Signed_______________________________________Name (Please print)____________________________
11th March 2009.Dear Parent,Last Thursday proved to be a fantastic day for two Class 4 pupils, James Bull and Creegan Griffiths. The boys were invited to the Vale Hotel & Health Spato compete in a quiz against each other, with the winner going on to meet the Welsh rugby squad and to cook food for them, have lunch with them and do some training skills in the afternoon. Both boys eventually got to meet the players and were presented with a signed and framed photograph of the Welsh team, with Creegangoing on to enjoy lunch with Adam Jones, Tom Shanklin and Huw Bennett. The boys also received a “goody” bag each from Sportsround, the BBC TV programme who arranged the event and the boys will now appear on CBBC on Friday, 6.15pm. This will be repeated on Saturday morning at 8.15am. What an ooportunity this was for the boys and my thanks go to John Watson, from Sportsround, for giving the boys this opportunity.Yesterday afternoon we were able to field a team in the Pontypridd Schools’ Plate Festival at the Dog Track in Pontypridd. Everyone in the team did their best and played to their potential and you can’t ask for more than that. We won one game and narrowly lost the second. Thanks go to Wil Ryan, Andrew Griffiths, Carrie Garwood and Pat Thorn for their support on the day and helping to transfer the children back to school. We are getting a steady stream of parents being prepared to come in and talk about their jobs. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you are able to do so and help make your child’s day.A school uniform order is due to be sent off on Monday, 16th March. If you require any items please fill in the order form by the main entrance or see Mrs. Gilheaney.Tang Soo Do and netball take place tomorrow evening after school. We are keeping our fingers crossed for fine weather.Another reminder that the school is closed to the children this Friday, 13th March, for a training day for the staff.Next Wednesday marks the start of the Kingswood trip for Year 6.On Thursday next week Year 5 will have a chance to do their own team building event at Daerwynno. Mr. Owen has a separate letter with these details.Well done to everybody for the efforts made with costumes for last week’s World Book Day and thanks also to everybody who has come in to school to help cook with the children. It is much appreciated. We are currently developing a garden area at the back of the school and we will soon need a ton or so of topsoil. Does anyone know where we can get some cheaply? As a final note the eggs in Class 2 have now hatched into beautiful little chicks this morning, giving the children a great thrill. It really has been anexciting few weeks at the school for the children.Yours faithfully,M.Emanuel (Head Teacher)
4th March. 2009.Dear Parent,I am pleased to be able to let you know good news regarding the school on a number of fronts. After dipping last summer, the number of children on role is once again rising. Many of the new intake have come into Class 1 and to cater for this we will be taking on additional staffing to help keep the adult/child ratio low. Mrs. Lisa Carpenter will be joining us from Monday, transferring back to usafter a term and a half away. We are delighted to be able to welcome Lisa back , we have missed her enthusiasm and expertise over this period and look forward to seeing what she can bring to the team in Class 1. This will make the adult/child ratio 1 adult to 8.4 children.Due to the relatively good financial position the school is in,the Governing Body meeting held yesterday evening, was able to agree a major makeover to the front of the school, as well as improvements to some of the schools’ advertising and stationery materials. A big thanks to Mrs.Nerys Jones for the beautiful art work she has done in Class 2 library. The mural shows the type of trees we have in the school grounds and the birds that live in them. The children will be able to change the look of the room to match the seasons by adding and taking leaves and blossoms to and from the trees. When you are in the school, please pop in and take a look.Congratulations to former pupil Joshua Manfield on his starring role in the Gwent Police DVD “Gone”. Josh is embarking on a promising acting career and I wish him all the best for the future.Swimming restarts for the junior children tomorrow. We will be leaving for the pool at about 10.25am and returning shortly before lunch. All children need to bring swimming costumes and towel every Thursday until further notice.Tomorrow is World Book Day and we are encouraging the children to come as a character from their favourite book. The junior children should perhaps keep their costumes in a bag to change into on return from the pool. I would like all those children dressing up to bring a note, on which is the name of the book and also a couple of lines about the character that they are dressed up as.On Friday, there is a road safety performance for the junior department. The performance is called “Jugglestruck”. Next Tuesday the netball squad will once again be at the University of Glamorgan for a coaching session. I would like to thank Mrs. Theresa Bowen for her enthusiasm with the girls in this sport. On the afternoon of Wednesday, 11th March a number of children from Class 3 will be taking part in a Dragon Sport Athletics Festival at Llantrisant Leisure Centre. The rugby squad will be involved in the monthly rugby festival at Llantrisant RFC.The Friends of Y Pant are holding a quiz night on Friday, 6th March in the main hall of Y Pant School. Tickets are available from Y PantE3+ office if you are interested in getting a team together. The Tang Soo Do lesson for next week will be on Thursday, as the school will be closed to children on Friday for an Y Pantcluster training event called the ‘Multiplier Effect’. This will be another look at helping children to learn effectively. These are busy and exciting times at the school.Yours Faithfully,Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.
