Weekly Newsletter 29/04/2009

April 30, 2009

29th   April 2009.Dear Parent, Tomorrow Class 2 will be visiting Techniquest, a packed lunch will be required for the day. At 1.30pm tomorrow there will be a new intake seminar for the parents of children who are due to start school in the next academic year. On Friday morning at 11.00 am,  there will be a training session for the mid-day supervisory assistants.  Monday is a bank holiday so the school will be closed for everyone and on Tuesday we will be having four pupils from local comprehensive schools on work placement with us. Also on Tuesday 12th there is a self-evaluation sub-group governing body meeting at 3.00 pm which will be followed by a full governing body meeting at 4.30pm.   On the extra curricular front,  cricket will remain on Thursdays at Miskin, weather permitting, netball will also continue on a Thursday but will also, from tomorrow, be open to Year 4 children. The Tang Soo do session will be postponed next week due to the bank holiday, leaving us two more sessions this half term, both on a Monday, with the final presentation being performed on Friday, 22nd May at 9.15am during a whole school assembly. If your child has taken part in this course and you would like to come along,  you will be very welcome to do so.   We are trying a new company for our weekly fruit tuck shop. The new packs will be 45p each, which is a slight increase, but we would like to continue to offer the children this healthy option on a Wednesday. At present the the packs are not being purchased by enough children and if we cannot meet costs then unfortunately we may have to stop providing this tuck shop.  We are currently experiencing quite a number of children with stomach upsets. As this seems to be on the increase could you please ensure that your child is fully recovered from this illness before rturning to school so that we can limit the spread of this illness. Please also find attached a copy of the calendar for this term.  Yours faithfully,Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

Members from the Dog’s Trust visited the school this week to encourage us to think carefully about how we treat dogs and how we look after a dog. The children were given safety tips as well and were given the chance to demonstrate what they had learned with the dogs that were brought along. Thank you to the Dog’s Trust for taking the time to visit us.

April 24, 2009

 2008_0207image0012.JPG

This week the children of class 2 and 6 have been busy planting and sowing seeds of various different vegetables and flowers for their vegetable patch. The children have planted everything from potatoes to turnips and are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labour. Special thanks go to Hazel Penberthy, who put in the extra hours after school to make sure the vegetable patch was ready for planting and the parents of the class 2, who generously gave seeds and seedlings that they had. Thank you very much for your support!

Dogs Trust Visit

April 24, 2009

2009_0422dogstrust00191.JPG

The Dogs Trust, Bridgend came to visit on Wednesday. They talked about how to care for dogs and reminded us about their motto. We had great fun learning how to meet a dog, how much exercise they need and we also learned how to be responsible owners.

Newsletter 22/04/2009

April 24, 2009

22nd  April 2009.Dear Parent, A warm welcome back for the Summer term at Llantrisant Primary School. There is a lot going on this week as always, but I would like to start with some congratulations and well dones.  Matthew Clapham and Tamsin Penberthy recently competed in the All Wales Gymnastic Competition and performed very well. A special congratulations to Matthew, who won a bronze medal in the team event and was fifith overall in the under 11 boys’ competition in a field of forty! This is a fantastic achievement as Matthew is only in Year 3 and has only been receiving out of school coaching in gymnastics for a relatively short time. Well done to you both. Today we had two volunteers from the Bridgend Dogs’ Trust come to school to talk to the children about looking after pets. This afternoon Years 5 & 6 have been out on a South Wales Police activitiy called Crucial Crew, which is all about social attitudes in the community. Because of the congestion in the entrance way at the start of each day can I ask that parents drop their children off in the yard from next Monday and allow them to come in to the school on their own as they do at the end of every other play throughout the day. Can I also remind parents of children who enter the school at the other end of the building that doing this would assist the prompt start to the day. If you would like to talk to your child’s teacher please do so at the end of the day and if its anythinf urgent please see me before 9.00 am. Class 1 dinner money can be placed in envelopes and popped in to the dinner money box which will be placed by the door on a Monday mornings.  These changes will assist a prompt start to the day.   On Friday afternoon we are welcoming back our local AM Jane Davidson who is going to unfurl our Eco Green Flag. Jane is the sustainable development member for the Welsh Assembly Government and we are pleased to be able to welcome her back to recognise the efforts and energy the children and staff have put in to achieving this prestigious award. Well done everyone. On Monday evening, there will be an afterschool twilight session for staff and governors alike. This terms extra curricular activities are   -  recorder and around the world clubs, these are for the junior children, and run during non contact times. The after school clubs are: dance with Louise Prosser,  which starts next Tuesday at 3.30 pm, as usual; cricket which is due to start  tomorrow at Miskin Cricket Club (lifts there and back for the children will need to be provided or arranged by yourselves); netball, which also starts back after school tomorrow; Tang Soo Do  which still has a few weeks to run and begins again next Monday. I can now confirm that Miss Bobeldijk’s post in class 2 will be a long standing one as Miss Davies will not be returning to school. I would like to thank her for the time she spent with us and wish her all the best for the future. We are going to be able to make more use of the local area now that the weather is warming up. Staff will take groups of children on study and activity or fact finding trips around Llantrisant this term. They will be taking lots of photographs, some of which will appear on the school website and, perhaps in the local paper. If you don’t wish your child to take part in either the visits or having their photogrph published, please fill in the attached slip. If you do not return the, I will assume you are happy with both opportunities. Many thanks for your co-operation. Yours sincerely,  Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

Teachers go to School!

April 7, 2009

class-3-photos-001.jpg

Here is proof that teachers do not know everything! This photo was taken during a staff training evening where the staff learned to add blogs to the school website. Adding these blogs will allow children to reflect on what they have done as well as allowing parents and carers the opportunity to see what their children get up to when they are not there!

Here’s hoping that they were all listening carefully!

Bright Sparks!

On the last day of term the children of class three didn’t relax and put their feet up. They were very busy finishing their Design and Technology project for this term. All but two children, created these techni-coloured lighthouses with light circuits inside. Callum created a robot and Tamsin created an owl with eyes that lit up. The designs were excellent and all children created a working circuit that they could control with a switch. Well done class 3!
