Out and about at the allotments!
May 16, 2009
Our Summer term topic is “in the garden” and as part of that topic class 2 visited the local allotments. As our class has just started its own vegetable patch we thought it would be nice for us all to see vegetable patches that are a little more developed. When we arrived we found that there were also some animals in residence. Special thanks go to Oliver’s Dad for accompanying us on the day and to the people at the allotments for giving us such a warm welcome.

Getting busy at the library!
May 16, 2009

Thanks to the help of Llantrisant library, each week from now until the end of term class 2 will be visiting the library for a story-reading session. The children will also get the chance to look at any books they want to and even bring them back to school to share with the rest of their class. These photos show the first of these sessions, which happened yesterday with the Year One children. Next week it will be the Year Twos’ turn to join in on the fun.

Newsletter 13/05/2009
May 14, 2009
13th May 2009. Dear Parent, A number of the school governors were able to come into school yesterday to watch the sort of activities that the children are doing in lessons on a daily basis. The feedback I received after their visit was very pleasing and it was great that they were able to see some of the learning strategies that I have spoken about in governing body meetings. The positive views that they shared with me, will help to inform decisions about the way the school works. I would like to find out about your opinions as well, so I have attached three questions to the end of this newsletter, which I would be very grateful if you could fill in and return to school by the end of this week. Last year I asked you to complete an ethos questionnaire about behaviour and relationships within the school and we had between 30 and 40 responses. I hope that you will be able to respond to these three questions in even higher numbers.I will share your responses with the school governors and yourselves, as part of the the school self- evaluation process. Any action required as a consequence of them will be shared with you. The junior age children will also be given a questionnaire this week so that we can find out their views on the same theme, as will all classroom staff. The netball and cricket coaching sessions for tomorrow will be cancelled as a whole staff training session will be taking place after school. On Tuesday morning, Megan Rees and Kate Dyer will be representing the School Council at a meeting at Y Pant for all the Cluster Schools’ Councils. This will take place at Y pant and the children will be picked up at 9.00am by Y Pant’s mini-bus. Class 3 have a visit to Roath Park tomorrow, the weather forecast is not too good, so please ensure appropriate clothing. We will return to school before the end of the school day. Should we have to cancel the trip to Roath Park due to adverse weather conditions, the children can go swimming as usual so could you please ensure that they bring along their swimming kit. At midday on Monday, our cluster worker, Nadine Reeves, will be speaking to the School Council about Road Safety and parking in the area. This is part of our on going strategy to encourage parents to park at Gwaun Ruperra Car Park, thus easing traffic congestion around the school. There is a Panel Meeting in school on Tuesday morning for some of the parents of children in Classes 5 & 6. Yours faithfully, Mike Emanuel, Head Teacher.

In the Garden
May 6, 2009
Class 1’s topic this term is in the garden. We are setting up a garden centre and cafe in the classroom and the children are making plants to sell. They have been finding out what different garden tools are used for and have planted a variety of seeds.
The children have enjoyed going into the nature reserve to look for wild flowers and are learning their names.
