1st  July 2009. Dear Parent, The list of events that are due to take place between now and the end of term will ensure a really stimulating end to the year for the children.  Today,  Year 6 children will be at Penygawsi Primary School taking part in the Y Pant Cluster’s  Dragons’ Den competition. Tomorrow they will be at Y Pant for a Year 6 athletics festival and also tomorrow after school there will be cricket training at Miskin Cricket Club starting at 4.00 pm. A tremendous run in the Asda Quick Cricket Competition came to an end last Thursday at Sophia Gardens. It was another terrific day and the children had done fantastically well to get to the finals of Mid and South Wales Competition for the second year running. It was a really exciting morning and Llantrisant Primary School won two out of the three games they played in the pool. Last year this was enough to get us through to the semi final stages but this year the pool was very tight with all teams being of a very similar ability.  We missed out for qualification into the semi final stage simply on the number of runs scored not the number of matches won. I would like to thank all the children for their fantastic effort holding their nerve in two very tight games, one of which was won with one ball to go and the other with two. It was great to see them getting so much enjoyment and playing at such a high level. On Friday, the annual reports come out to parents. The teachers have been working hard over recent weeks to prepare these reports and I would like to thank them for the time they have spent preparing them and over the course of the year the time they have spent on assessment and recording,  putting themselves in a position to know as much as they do about each child. For the last couple of years we have not had parents’ evenings after the reports have been issued,  as we have held them twice earlier in the year. However,  if there are any specific issues that you would like to discuss regarding the reports, or any information you need clarified,  please contact me at the school. Class 2 Parents’ Evenings which had to be postponed in February due to Ms Davies’ illness,  will now take place on Monday and Tuesday of next week. You should receive an invite with a time for the appointment within the next couple of days and if this time is not suitable for you please could you contact Miss Bobeldijk at the school as soon as possible to rearrange. Thank you very much. Sports Day will take place on Monday 6th July. The infant department sports will start at 9.30 am and be finished before lunch, whilst the juniors will start at 1.30 pm and also be finished before the end of the school day. These have proven to be very entertaining events over the last couple of years and I hope that those of you that are able to,  will come along and support your children on the day. On Tuesday next week,  the winning teams from the Dragons’ Den venue will take part in the Dragons’ Den final at Y Pant. This will commence at 12.30pm. Also on  Tuesday at 7.00 pm,  in the evening the parents of pupils in Year 6 are invited along to Y Pant to a meeting, as part of the winners of the whole Dragons’ Den competition will be unveiled. On Wednesday, 8th July,  Year 6 will be visiting Y Pant for their final taster day. The pupils will be spending the whole day there and will need money for lunch or sandwiches. We will need notification in order to inform Y Pant of the need for any free meals required. The infant SEAL assembly will  take place next Wednesday morning, starting at 9.30 am and any of you with children in the infant department would be very welcome to come along.   At 7.00 pm on the same day,  the governors and myself will be in school to deliver the annual report to  parents which will be a verbal version of the written one sent out to you some weeks ago. Ms Davies in Class 2 is officially finishing at the school on the 31st August this year. She has been with us since  the year 2000 and been involved fully in the life of the school during that time. If you would like to make a contribution to a leaving present for Ms Davies please could you send the money  into school in an envelope,  putting Ms Davies on the front of it. Please find accompanying this letter, a copy of the schools recently published advertising pamphlet. We have tried to reflect in it what we value as a school and I hope you are as pleased as we are with the end product. A final plea for any Tesco Vouchers you may have lying around at home, orders need to be sent by Friday.  Finally, I would like to congratulate two former pupils on their success at university this summer. Natasha Bosley gained an honours degree in law,  whilst Emily Hughes became Doctor Emily Hughes having qualified in medicine at Bristol University. Congratulations to you both from everyone at the school.  Yours faithfully,                                 Mike Emanuel,  Head Teacher.
