Newsletter 30/09/2009
September 30, 2009
30th September 2009. Dear Parent, Just a reminder that this Friday, 2nd October, will be a closure day for the children but the staff will be in school. Due to complications with the ordering of food for school dinners the children will be having what was planned for Friday on Thursday and this will be haddock bites or Welsh beefburgers followed by home made cake. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Tomorrow afternoon PESS co-ordinator Greg Davies will be coming to school to work with Class 4 and on Thursday morning Class 6 will be going apple picking. On Monday Class 3 will be visiting the Water Front Museum in Swansea and on Tuesday there is a training seminar for the mid-day assistants. At 7.00 pm on Tuesday evening there will be a PTA AGM in the school. As previously stated the current committee of the PTA will be stepping down after many years of sterling work for the school from which every single child has benefitted. If you are able to give up some time for this invaluable organisation, please come along on Tuesday and volunteer to take over one of these important roles. The weekly letter, normally sent out on a Wednesday, usually appears on the school website on the day that it is sent out. The school website is a good point of contact for the school and additional information is now being put on in terms of class bloggs, which you can click into whenever you go onto the site. We will try to keep you up to date with what’s going on in the classes, any student placements that are taking place, trips and other exciting activities that the children are taking part in. Occasionally, I will try to put on updates that may not have fitted in the normal weekly letter and within the next few days I will try to put on the current school targets for the next couple of years. Yours faithfully, Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

Class 4’s beautiful beetroot!
September 26, 2009

Due to class 4’s hard work at maintaining their vegetable garden, the children were able to harvest some of the vegetables that had grown. Megan found a lovely big beetroot that she took home with her. Her mum boiled it and gave it to Mr Owen, who thought it was delicious. Below is a picture of some of the children tending to the vegetable garden when it was in its early stages.

What a load of rubbish!
September 26, 2009

This week, the children of class 2 and 6 took part in a litter pick around the school and Llantrisant as part of the Keep Wales Tidy campaign. As you can see the children had a lot of fun and did something good and purposeful for the community at the same time. Well done!

Weekly Newsletter
September 23, 2009
23RD September 2009. Dear Parent The pre-school group run by Mrs. Hazel Penberthy restarted last Thursday morning at 9.15 am and was very well attended. If you have a pre-school child or know parents of pre school children please encourage them to come along on a Thursday morning so that both parent and child can enjoy the child’s first contact with the school. Only two children attended the Tang Soo Do class on Monday night . This is a good opportunity for children to make a start with a martial art class right on their door step. But unless more children come along next week the class will not be viable for Master Williams and the class will end after next Monday’s session. The dance and netball after school clubs have been very well attended so far this year, but both rugby and the infants’ Allsports activities have not. If you are in the right age group for either of these clubs, why not come along and try them, with rugby being on a Thursday each week after school and Allsports on a Friday. The theme for assemblies this week has been harvest and as part of the theme Friday’s assembly is being taken by the Eco Council, Mrs. Warriolow will be hoping to give out pieces of Fairtrade Nutbar and Fairtrade bananas to the children. If your child has any problem with eating nuts please let us know before Friday’s assembly. All next week we would like the children to bring in labels from any Fairtrade produce you have at home so that we can do an audit of the use of Fair Trade produce by yourselves. We then plan to repeat this in December to see if awareness raising has increased the amount of Fairtrade produce you buy. The children who have taken part in rugby training so far will combine with children from another school to take part in the rugby festival this afternoon. However, due to the lack of numbers, we are not going to be able to put our own team forward for the 7 aside tournament in Carnetown next Wednesday. As you know, tomorrow is a big day at the school, with the first visit of our registered inspector, Dr. David Ellis, who will be holding a series of meetings over the course of the day. The meeting with parents begins at 7.00 pm. On Monday, the Rev. Viv Parkinson will be coming to school to demonstrate a baptism for the children in Class 6. I have had a request from Mrs. Bromham that the children in Class 1 wear track suit bottoms to school on a Wednesday in order to make preparations for PE easier. Pantomime deposits need to be paid by this Friday, if you wish to reserve seats please send in payments along with the slip from last week’s letter as reservations with the New Theatre will be confirmed next week. Yours faithfully, Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.
