In this week’s Friday celebration assembly, the children of class 3 and 4 performed the dance routine they have learned and helped choreograph over the past term. The final result was fantastic and these photos can only give you a taster of what the performance was like. Well done to all the children and special thanks go to Louise Prosser, who has coached and helped all of the children.

Christmas tree sculptures

November 28, 2009

This week class 5 have been using small branches from a Christmas tree and other Christmas decorations to create their 3D sculptures. The children had to think carefully about how to arrange their branches to create their design.

Newsletter 25/11/2009

November 25, 2009

25th November 2009. Dear Parent, A HUGE WELL DONE to everyone involved in the Christmas Fair. Many thanks for all the help both before the night and on the night, helping to set up and man the stalls. The food was a resounding success and contributed to the magnificent profit of £1037.  The next PTA meeting will be held on Thursday at 3.30 pm. All welcome!! The rugby festival due to be held today at Llantrisant RFC has had to be postponed due to the weather.  I am not sure when the next tournament will take place but training will continue every Thursday. Local artist Jo Clifford has been working with the children in Class 4 this week to produce lanterns for the Lantern Parade in  Llantrisant.  The children really enjoy this activity, many thanks to Jo once again for helping the children with this project. WPC Louise Daniels is working with the children in year 6 this week on the SAFE project. Louise will be with the children on Wednesday and Thursday and returning next week for further input. On Friday morning,  the Rev. Ian Hodges will be coming to school to take an assembly for all the children. Ian is a curate at Llantrisant Church and brings a strong Christian perspective to his assemblies. Also on Friday morning there will be a performance for the rest of the school of the dance work the junior children have been doing on a Wednesday morning with Louise Prosser.  Louise takes each class every other week and the standard that she achieves with the children is very high. The purpose of the performance is to encourage as many children as possible to take part in after school dance clubs. Last week the children from the dance clubs gave public performances at the Muni in Pontypridd and once again these were of a very high standard. Congratulations to all the children who took part keep up the good work!! Although we are always pleased to see children return to school after illness, for health and safety of the others, can I ask that when your child is ill, you are sure all symptoms have cleared before he or she returns to school. On Friday afternoon,  the Year 6 children will be involved in a basketball festival at Y Pant. The bus will pick them up to take them down and the children will be returned by mini-bus after the event. We will probably need one parent to assist with the transfer back to school. If you are able to be at Y Pant at 3.00 pm on Friday afternoon to help with the return,  please contact me at the school. The school choir have been rehearsing regularly for their performance for the local senior citizens on Tuesday afternoon at Gwaun Ruperra.  On Wednesday afternoon next week,  assistant Director of Education Gareth Rees,  will be visiting school to look at some of the recent improvements made here.  Yours faithfully,   Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

Investigating materials

November 20, 2009

In science, class 2 have been looking at properties of materials. We have been thinking of words we can use to describe them and what the materials are used for in the world around us. In this lesson we were sorting the materials into groups depending on what they shared in common.

Newsletter 18/11/2009

November 18, 2009

18th November 2009. Dear Parent, We have a number of big events going on in school this week,  the first among them is the Christmas Craft Fair, lots of work goes into the preparation for these events and I would particularly like to thank Helen Jones,  Sarah Challinor, Anne Marshall and the rest of the PTA Committee for everything they have done,  making it possible to run the event tonight. Special thanks go to Alyx Peters and Mrs. Yvonne Peters for putting so much into the preparation of refreshments this evening. The fair will end at 6.30 pm and I hope,  even those of you that are reading this letter after coming home from work,  will be able to come down and spend some time at the school and enjoy the atmosphere and environment that all the hard work has produced. The other two big events this week that showcase the children of the school are the SEAL assemblies for the term. The junior assembly starts tomorrow afternoon at 2.30pm while the infant assembly takes place on Friday morning at 9.30 am. We look forward to seeing as many parents there as posssible as assemblies are always a great occasion for families to take pride in each other. On Monday,  Class 4 will be making lanterns for the Lantern Parade in Llantrisant. Jo Clifford, a local artist, will be coming along to work with the children once again.   On Wednesday next week,  we are hoping that the weather will permit us to hold an overdue rugby ferstival at Llantrisant Rugby Club. The numbers of children training have increased over the last few weeks and progress is being made.   I will look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Christmas Fair this afternoon.    Yours faithfully,      Mike EmanuelHead Teacher.

SEAL assemblies

November 15, 2009

This week every child in the school will be participating in an assembly to show what we have been focusing on in our personal and social lessons. The Junior performance will be on Thursday at 2:30pm and the Infant’s will be on Friday at 9:30. Adults are welcome to come and watch the assemblies and don’t forget this week is a busy week as the annual Christmas Fair is on Wednesday straight after school.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to put together these assemblies. Here is a photo of both the infant and junior assemblies.

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall!

November 13, 2009

 web-042.jpg

Class 2’s reading book for this week involved lots of characters from nursery rhymes and stories and so the children completed some activities based around these characters. For their design project the children had to design a protective coat for a real unboiled egg (Humpty Dumpty). Once their egg had been wrapped in their design, we dropped it from the gymnastics equipment in the hall to see whether their eggs would survive. Many of the children’s did so well done!

Little writers!

November 13, 2009

class1-006.jpg

Class 1 have been working very hard on their letter sounds at the moment and are all doing very well. Some of the children have moved on to constructing full words with the sounds they know and have been looking at words that share the same letters at the end. They have been learning about the “op” words.

Goldilocks and the three bears!

November 13, 2009

 class1-007.jpg

If you have visited class 1 recently you will know that the home corner has a very “Goldilocks and the three bears” feel to it. The children have been taking part in learning activities based on the story. Here we can see one of the children who dressed up as a bear and some other children building the bear’s cave outside.

Firework painting!

November 13, 2009

 class1-001.jpg

To celebrate fireworks night last week, class 1 created these beautiful firework images. The children used and paint and the rain to create their designs. The children enjoyed watching the colours mix and blend with the water. Well done class 1!
