Llantrisant Primary School Closed Tuesday 22nd Decemeber

December 22, 2009

Due to continuing accessibility and so health and safety concerns the school is closed today. The compacted state of the snow has made the roads close to the school equally difficult to negotiate.

The end of term awards, for pupil of the term, will now be presented on the first Friday of the new term.

Merry Christmas to all concerned with the school. I look forward to seeing you all safe and well next term, for what I hope will be another  happy year at the school.

As part of their maths lessons this week the children of class 2 went on a treasure hunt around the school. They had to find cards with a snake on it. Then they measured each one carefully and recorded their results.

Building houses

December 20, 2009

On Friday we decided to put all of our recycled waste to good use by using it to make our D.T. project. Over the past term we have been looking at houses and designing our own. There were some wonderful designs and all of the “rubbish” was used very creatively.

This week we were lucky to be visited by a teacher from Welsh Water. The purpose of the visit was to show us how to reduce our waste and look after our environment and all the children made bird feeders to keep the birds safe through the winter months.

Newsletter 9/12/09

December 9, 2009

9th December 2009.Dear Parent, The Christmas Disco held last night for the children went very well. Lots of the little ones came in fancy dress costumes,  thanks to all you parents who joined in with the spirit of this and congratulations to the winners of the competition, Anwen Jones and Luke Crofts. Everyone who turned up in costume was a winner and I think next time everyone who takes part should be rewarded with a small prize.  The junior children had a “coolest costume” competition and this was won by James Allan and Jessica Crofts, but so many of the children, once again,  could have won a prize for the way they were turned out. Thanks again to Alyx Peters and Mrs. Yvonne Peters for the fantastic food they prepared for the night and to the class reps,  PTA committee and everyone who helped to run the event. We raised a fantastic £440. We also require volunteers to run the tea and coffee before the Christmas Concerts which are taking place next week on Tuesday & Wednesday at 2.00pm.   Earlier in the term we did a collection of Fair Trade labels in order to try and raise awareness for this worthwhile approach. We would appreciate it if every child could bring in one Fair Trade label before the end of term so that we can make up a school Eco Christmas Tree. The dress rehearsal for the infant play will take place tomorrow morning at 11.00 am. We have invited along the children from Lynfa Penygawsi and Little Inspirations Nurseries.  At 12.45 pm on Thursday there will be an Eco Committee Meeting,  but there will be no rugby training after school tomorrow and rugby training will recommence after the Christmas holidays. The netball squad will have the opportunity of another coaching course at the University of Glamorgan on Friday morning and we will need one or two cars in order to transport the children. If you are able to help please remember to bring along your insurance certificate with you. On Sunday at 3.30pm,  the children in the choir will be taking part in the Christmas Tree Festival at Llantrisant Church. This is a lovely occasion whether your child is part of the school choir or not and everyone is invited along to enjoy this start of the build-up to Christmas. The annual panto trip will be taking place on Monday. The bus will leave Gwaun Ruperra Car Park at 1.30 pm and will return at approximately at 5.30 pm. If your child is going unaccompanied,  please confirm this return time with us on Monday. The children will need to wear school uniform on the day. A big thanks to Mrs. Lloyd who has once again done all the organisation and money collections for the panto. This does take a lot of time and as a result the children get a great deal of pleasure from it. On Tuesday morning,  the Year 6 children will be going down to Y Pant for a combined Year 6 Year 7 concert and performing a song.  On Tuesday afternoon at 2.00pm,  the long awaited first performance of the infant concert, Whoops-a-Daisy Angel , will take place in the school hall. We still have a small number of tickets left for both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s performances if you wish to come along please see Mrs. Williams, school secretary,  for tickets. Christmas is coming!Yours faithfully,M. Emanuel (Head Teacher)
