Portraits
January 31, 2010
This week’s art focused on facial features and after looking for examples of different eyes, noses and mouths, the children drew a friend with the target of looking carefully at their features. All children worked very hard and produced beautiful work.
Fruit Tasting
January 31, 2010
As you may already be aware every Monday and Thursday class 2 are joined by Naomi, a level 3 childcare student. This week, to start our D.T. project for this term to learn all about fruit and design our own fruit salad, Naomi led a fruit tasting and testing session. The children enjoy trying different fruits and comparing their taste and texture.

Hair for Haiti!
January 23, 2010
In an effort to raise money to help the people of Haiti after the recent earthquake, all the children and adults came to school with crazy hair. With such a big effort on the day we managed to raise a fantastic £402 for the cause. Thank you to everyone that contributed. Class 2 wrote prayers for the people of Haiti at this difficult time.

Adopt an animal!
January 23, 2010
Class 2 have decided to adopt an animal as a class. The WWF offers ten different endangered animals to choose from and so class 2 divided into small research groups to find out why each animal was endangered and then present their case in front of the class as to why the rest of their class should vote to adopt their animal. The children did fantastically well and some children (and parents) put in lots of effort outside of school hours as well. It was a close-fought battle in the end but the bottle-nosed dolphin came out on top. Well done to everybody who contributed to this work, including Mrs Penberthy who worked with each group individually to help them present their case.
Pupil of the term awards!
January 23, 2010
Due to the snow the presentation of the certificate for pupil of the term was delayed until this past week. At the end of each term every teacher must nominate one child to receive the award. This can be to reward a particular achievement over term or just to recognise excellent progress in a particular area. The winners for the autumn term are pictured below. Well done to all!
Brainbox week!
January 23, 2010
Once again, the past week has been focusing on the children learning more about their brain, how it works and what it needs. They have also been thinking about how they learn best. Class 2 learned that whenever they learn new thing learning stars appear in their brains. We made these hats to show that. Class 3 looked at the brain in more detail and tried to decide whether they were left- or right-brained when it came to learning. Class 3 also made their very own brains.
Ice art
January 23, 2010
Class 2 decided to take advantage of the freezing weather and made art using ice. They added natural things they could find outside like leaves and berries to water in a recycled milk carton. They added coloured water and then put them in the freezer to turn to ice. We thought about how differently water behaves when it is frozen to when it is a liquid. Above is a picture of before they went in the freezer and the other photos show them after.
Autumn Term educational visits
January 23, 2010
Over the last term, class 3 were focusing on the work of Laura Ashley for their art project. To help develop this knowledge the children visited the Laura Ashley museum and took part in many fun activities with the staff there. As part of the history topic for last term they also visited the waterfront museum in Swansea.
Halloween Hats!
January 23, 2010
Ok, so admittedly it is January and Halloween is in October but as class 3 worked so hard on their hats we had to add these pictures to the website no matter how late we are. The children worked carefully to measure their hat before decorating it beautifully and here are the results.
