Newsletter 26/05/2010

May 26, 2010

26th May  2010. Dear Parent, The final day for deposit payments for the forthcoming school trip is Friday. We still have spare seats on the bus at this time but cannot guarantee anything after half term. Can I also ask that any Tesco Vouchers you, or your close family or relatives may have lying around at home, you collect up and bring into school before Friday, as we are fast approaching the final collection day. Tomorrow is the last swimming lesson for this term, but there will be a swimming session on the first Thursday back for the children to attempt distance awards.  The final swimming event will be the annual inter school swimming gala which will take place on Wednesday, July 7th. We had the trials for that gala last Wednesday and it was a pleasure to see the competitive nature of the children coming through. As a result of these trials the team was picked for the gala and the team is on display on the junior noticeboard. Congratulations to everybody selected for the event, its an absolutely great occasion,  full of excitement and one those taking part will remember for a long time. On Friday,  our student from UWIC, Mr. Anthony Cornish, finishes his time with us. I would like to thank him for his manner and efforts during his time here and wish him all the best for a successful career. On Thursday after school,  we have two cricket teams playing kwik cricket matches vs Penygawsi Primary down at Miskin Cricket Club. We need plenty of lifts to get the children there. If you have not already brought a copy of your insurance documents into school and intend providing children other than your own a lift to the cricket,  please could you bring the certificate along with you. These matches will be used as a trial for the first of the kwik cricket competitions for this year,  which will take place on Tuesday, 8th June,  between 9.30 am and 2.00 pm,  again at Miskin Cricket Club. On Friday morning, Mr. Phil Sweet,  the history teacher from Y Pant Comprehensive School will be coming along to do a history investigation with the Year 6 children. This investigation has been very well received in the other primary schools in the area and I am sure our children will find it just as interesting. Also on Friday morning the Rev. Ian Hodges will be coming along to take an assembly with the rest of the school. The school breaks up for the half term holiday on Friday afternoon at 3.30 pm. I would like to thank all the children for their friendly behaviour and enthusiasm over the half term. These attributes make the school a nice place to come to for both children and staff alike. Thanks to the staff for their hard work again during this term and to parents and governors for their continued support.  I hope the weather holds for the half term so that everybody can get out into the sunshine and to come back refreshed on Monday, 7th June at 9.00 am prompt,  for what promises to be another busy and enjoyable half term. Yours faithfully,                                      Mike Emanuel, (Head Teacher).

Apologies for the delay with these photos but better late than never! These photos show parts of the fantastic dances that both the Mini-movers and Dance makers performed at the Park and Dare Theatre at the end of last term. Many thanks to Louise Prosser, the children themselves and the parents for supporting this event as usual. Well done to all the performers-you did a wonderful job!

On Thursday, class 2 and 6 went on their visit to Southerndown beach. This trip was postponed from last trip due to poor weather conditions but the weather this time was anything but poor. The children and adults present on the day enjoyed creating artwork in the sand using seaweed and pebbles, followed by rock-pooling in the afternoon. This trip supported both classes current theme as we are reading “Sharing a shell” by Julia Donaldson.

On Wednesday, the school were visited by a brass band who came to perform and teach the children about their instruments. The group involved out very own music teacher, Mrs Duckworth. Some of the children had a go at playing the instruments and even Mr Owen tried. I think Mr Owen realised just how hard it was to play a brass instrument. The children enjoyed performances of theme tunes like Eastenders, Harry Potter and The Simpsons.

On Monday a company called Drum Crazy came to the school to involve all the children in a workshop about drums. Each class had their time with the drums where every child had a go at playing something. At the end of the day the children performed what they had rehearsed. It was a fantastic opportunity for all and one which was enjoyed greatly.

As part of the Wales spring clean initiative, class 4 cleaned up the common and surrounding areas to the school. The children gathered up all kinds of rubbish that would have otherwise harmed the environment and the wildlife living in the area. The children worked hard together- good job class 4!
