Website Upgrade Summer 2010

June 28, 2010

During the summer months the School website will undergo several key changes including a complete redesign. The new site will allow us to have more interactive photo galleries, upload files that can be viewed and downloaded by parents and children including the new School prospectus, and better search and filing of information that will make it a lot easier for everyone to find exactly what they are looking for.

During the upgrade process, the site may be unavailable for short periods (a half day here and there) but we will make every effort to keep it online for viewing.

The new website will be fully operational before the start of the new term.

On Friday, class 1 performed their class assembly on the topic of nursery rhymes and fairy tales. The story was based on the Gingerbread man and was adapted to involve characters from all kinds of different rhymes. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and performed well on the day. Well done class 1!

The preparation for this year’s Summer fair are well under way now.  The fair will be held on Saturday 3rd July from 11am-2:30pm. There will be a wide array of stalls as well as entertainment on the day. There are still spaces for helpers to run one of the stalls and so if you would like to help out please see Miss Bobeldijk (class 2). On the day, weather permitting, there will be a bouncy castle, barbecue, face-painting, a fire engine, animal petting corner, throw a welly competition and lots of other fun games and stalls. Come along and support your school!

With our recent P.E. work we have been looking at developing throwing and passing in different ways. Practising these skills will help us with competitive games such as netball, basketball, rugby and football. In this lesson we used a variety of equipment to develop under-arm, chest passes and over-arm throws.

Beating the Bounds

June 27, 2010

15th-june-2010-022.jpg

On the 12th of June, the tradition of beating the bounds of Llantrisant was seen once more. Children and adults from the surrounding areas of Llantrisant took part in the long walk around the town. There was fun and laughter on the day and children from primary schools from the area took part in an art competition. The children had to produce an image or piece related to the theme of nature. Well done to all the children who competed! A few children from our school were awarded highly commended for their work and Rhys from class 6 was awarded second prize in his age category.

Newsletter 24/06/2010

June 24, 2010

Dear Parent, It’s been a really exciting week here for the children at the school. Yesterday, the cricket team played in the finals of Mid Glamorgan Kwik Cricket Competition. There were 16 teams at the tournament, all of whom had won qualification tournaments.  The teams were divided into four groups of four. The winners and runners-up in each group progressed to the quarter finals. As has been the case in recent years,  our  team performed extremely well on the day. We won our pool, winning all three games comfortably and won the quarter final by even more. In the semi final we came up against St. Claire’s Public School from Porthcawl and this was an extremely close game,  St. Claire’s having two players in the Welsh national squad and although I think that we were the better team overall and got ourselves into a winning position, we failed to press home the advantage and lost narrowly . In so doing,  we just missed out on qualifying for the Wales finals at the SWALEC stadium for a remarkable third year on the trot. The team did themselves and us proud and I would say that we are the only team that we came across with strength right throughout the ten players. Congratulations to all the players for the standard they have reached and the challenge for those still with us next year is to go that one small step further.  Most of the cricket team were then involved in the schools’ production of the “Wozard if Iz” , the first performance of which was last night. This spoof musical, written by David Owen, was performed with a great deal of enjoyment by the children. The fun they had in what they did was evident and it was an absolute pleasure to be there as a member of the audience and laugh along with them. I am looking forward to the second performance of the show tonight and those of you who have not yet seen it are in for an absolute treat. The challenge for the children is to keep up the high level that they achieved last night. Thanks go to the PTA  for their support, Mrs J Jones & Mrs Lamerton, Mrs.Lloyd and Mrs. Nerys Jones, Mr. G. Prosser, Mrs. Louise Prosser and Mrs Jenny Lax. Thanks also go to Mrs.Lisa Davies, Mrs.Lynda Cowley and Mr. David Owen. Congratulations go to Jarred Bull, Rhys Jones and Thomas Burr who were all prize winners in the art competition for the Beating of the Bounds.  On Friday,  Class 1 will be performing their assembly. This will start at approximately 9.30am. and on Friday afternoon there will be a pre-intake seminar for parents whose children are starting with us next year. Tomorrow is the final date for the payments for Legoland. We will be sending off a cheque for the tickets on Monday.  The children in the winning group for the Dragons Den project for this year, will be going down to Y Pant on Monday at 12.00 noon for a buffet lunch and a presentation to the Dragons. Whilst on Tuesday next week Year 6 will be visiting Y Pant as part of the transition programme but the Year 5 visit for E3+ is being cancelled due to the fact that too many children would be involved on the day.  Tuesday will also be a moving up day in school.  With Year 6 at Y Pant it’s an opportunity for the children to move on to the classes in which they will be next year.  Yours faithfully,Mike Emanuel ( Head Teacher)

Newsletter 16/06/2010

June 17, 2010

Dear Parent, The usual event filled summer term is well underway here at the school.  The cricket team had a successful start to the season yesterday, by winning the local schools’ Asda Kwik Cricket competition at Miskin Cricket Club.  The team played four games and won all four on their way to qualifying. The team has now won a place in the Mid Glamorgan County Finals for the third year on the trot and this will take place at Miskin Cricket ground next Wednesday between 9.30 am and 2.00 pm.  There will be the usual cricket training after school at Miskin tomorrow for all children interested and an additional game and training session is arranged for Monday against and with Pontyclun Primary School,  prior to the county championships next week. The Year 6 children combined with the children from Penygawsi Primary School to begin this year’s Dragons Den Competition. Miss Clark from Y Pant came along to the school to run the event with support from staff from the Education Business Partnership, sixth formers from Y Pant and two local business people. The Squash Wales Mid Glamorgan Mini Squash Individual and Team Championships 2010,  is due to be held in Pontyclun Primary School a week Saturday, 26th June. If you are interested in your child taking part, please fill in the attached slip and return it to school by Friday so that we can enter the appropriate number of children and teams in the competition. With the Summer Fair fast approaching, we are looking for donations of wine, raffle prizes, unwanted toys and small gifts which can be brought to school and placed in the library by Class 2. There is a list of stalls by the main entrance. If you wish to help out on the day please sign your name next to a stall on the list. For the lucky envelope stall there is a box inside the entrance for small gift donations. This event is always hugely successful in fundraising for the school, all money going to the benefit of the children over the course of the year. The Year 6 CAT tests for Y Pant will take place on Friday. It is important that all Year 6 children are in school on this day. Mrs. Gilheaney will be sending off the last uniform order for this academic year on Wednesday, 23rd June. If you have any uniform requirements for September get your orders in by then. The LA catering contractor, Catering Direct, offered a packed lunch option to the children starting from this week. They did not foresee the high demand that occurred for this option and have used up a number of the items on offer. This will mean that no packed lunches will be available until a week Monday. Each day the children will be able to choose from, two sandwich or baguette filling offers, a jacket potato, salad bar or one of two hot meal options. This is a lot of work for the cook, Stephanie Davies, who is struggling heroically to provide all these alternatives. Realistically, and to avoid waste, if very few children select one of the hot options, Steph will go back to the class and ask the child to select an alternative lunch for that day. As you can see, there will be plenty of options! The return of the packed lunches will be accompanied by a drink of squash rather than bottled water and a whole piece of fruit or a quarter of a piece and a biscuit. As part of the school’s Dynamo project Class 6 are making cakes and selling them, the proceeds going towards the school summer fair. The cakes will be on sale next Wednesday at a cost of 20p. Finally, rehearsals are going on a pace for the performances next week of the “Wozard of Iz”. The tickets are now on sale at the school at a cost of £2 each. This is a really exciting event for all the children involved and I would like to wish all the actors and actresses the best for the forthcoming performances. Yours faithfully,Mike Emanuel
