January 28, 2010

27th January 2010. Dear Parent, Last week’s ‘Hair for Haiti Day’  raised a fantastic £402.  A big thank you to all of you who contributed so generously to the appeal, and to the children and staff for being such good sports in joining in with the spirit of the day.  Due to the snowy weather before Christmas, we were unable to present the pupil of the term awards. Congratulations to the winners, who received a school certificate and a £5 gift voucher for WHSmith. They were:-         Class 1 Evan Pennington                                Class 2 Joshua Davies                                Class 3 Megan Rees                                Class 4 Michael Chau                                Class 5 Menna Jones                                Class 6 Ben Flood A reminder to parents whose children are now full time in Class 1.  Please could you say goodbye to the children at the door at 2 minutes to 9 o’clock in the mornings, so that there is more space inside for the new starters and their parents who are getting used to school for the first time. Tomorrow, the community nurse will be in school to measure the height and weight of reception age children, she will return at a later date to test vision.   This term we will be having day placement students in Classes 1 and 2 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tomorrow afternoon the new Welsh Advisory teacher, Emma Davies, will be coming along to give lessons to Classes 2, 3 and 4.   On Tuesday evening next week at 6:30pm at Y Pant, there will be the Kingswood presentation, to which, all Year 6 parents are invited.  This will give you an opportunity to see the fantastic activities available to the children during their stay there, which is going to take place between the 10th - 12th of March. Don’t forget all this trip is going to cost you is £20, which needs to be in school before Thursday 11th February. Also on Thursday, 11th February, back by popular demand, we will be holding the  “Llantrisant’s Got Talent” contest in the school hall. The contest will start at 5.00 pm and end at 7.00pm. Can you please make a note that on Friday, 12th February there will be a cluster school closure day for staff training. Finally, on behalf of all the staff at the school I would like to wish local librarian Val Harris a happy retirement.  She has welcomed visits from the school on many occassions in the past and has been kind enough to come along and help sort the libraries out here.  All the best for the future Val. Yours sincerely,   Mike Emanuel (Head Teacher)
