Do longer legs jump the furthest?
Dosbarth Melyn thoroughly enjoyed completing a science investigation to find out whether children with longer legs jump the furthest. We recorded sensible predictions, carried out our test fairly and then wrote conclusions based on the data collected.

Emperors and Empires Immersion Day Autumn 2023
Dosbarth Melyn thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon as part of their immersion day. To help us 'launch' our new topic. Emperors and Empires, we spent the day visiting the Fortress Baths, the Amphitheatre and the Roman Barracks. We also dressed up like the Legio II Augusta and explored what life was like living in the Roman barracks.
What a wonderful experience!
Pupil Voice
Did the Romans have shops? Did Roman children go to school? What did the Roman's wear?
Dosbarth Melyn spent the afternoon researching information about life in everyday Ancient Rome. We worked together in groups to find out information, fed back to our peers and came back together with 5 facts to complete our 'research doughnut'.

World Book Day 2022
Dosbarth Melyn enjoyed reading the story 'I Talk Like a River' by Jordan Smith, to celebrate World Book Day. We took on the role of the main character and answered questions from our friends whilst in the 'hot seat'. We then wrote acrostic poems and painted our interpretations of the river! As always, the work was fantastic! Da iawn pawb.
A Double Celebration!
Today, Dosbarth Melyn celebrated Shrove Tuesday and Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant (St Davids Day). We performed our poem 'Dewi is a Dragon' and song 'Beth sy yn yr Fasged Siopa?' to the children in Foundation Phase during our Eisteddfod. We also set up a pancake station where we asked our Helpwr Heddiw's for our orders using the Welsh phase 'Ga i pancake gyda ...... os gwelwch yn dda?'. We had to pay for our pancakes to recieve them as well! What a lovely day we had.
If you would like to watch our Eisteddfod performances please search for our school on Youtube.

Measuring Dinosaurs
We thoroughly enjoyed getting outside today even if it was extremely chilly! The children were given the challenge of measuring the true length and height of a range of different dinosaurs on the playground. We used metre sticks to help us accurately draw the different using our information texts. This helped to get a much more 'concrete' understand of how big (or small!) dinosaurs actually were.

A visit from the fire service
We had a visit from the Pontyclun Fire Service recently. They came to tell us how to stay safe at home and that we should never play with matches.
We had a story, then the firemen challenged Mrs Cushion to get dressed into the Fire fighters kit as quickly as she could!
It was really funny!!!

take a look at our map sticks
We have be learning about how the indigenous people from north america made maps sticks of their journeys. They documented the routes they took by picking up remainders of the things they saw along their journey. They then attached the items to a their sticks.
We made our own map sticks as we took a journey around our school. We wrapped leaves, differnt coloured wools, sticks, reeds, and flowers which represented the differnt locations as we went on our journey. We then used our sticks to help us discribed our journey to the rest of the class.
