Winter wonders!!!
During the months of November and December it has been tree planting time again.
The Woodland Trust gave us 200 different types of tree saplings. We have been busy planting a new woodland area in our field.
This week we have been out and about checking our new trees. The saplings are looking healthy and are still standing up right after the wintery storms. As we walked around our field we found large branches blown down by the wind. It was great fun acting out the story of 'Room On The Broom.
The field has been very boggy so we decided to dig a channel to help drain the water into the stream. A new willow tunnel has also been planted.

We are really excited that our willow tunnel and reading cwtch have grown so well. Take a look.
Gardening Club and Forest Schools
Take a look at our maps sticks
We have be learning about how the indigenous people from north america made map sticks of their journeys. They documented the route they took by picking up remainders of the things they saw along their journey.
We made our own map sticks as we took a journey around our school. We wrapped leaves, differnt coloured wools, sticks, reeds, and flowers which represented the differnt locations we passed through.
We then discribed our journey to the rest of the class. We used our sticks to help us remember the order of the route we took.

Winter time wonders with the Forest school
Although the gardening club has had a break during the winter months, Mrs Penberthy and forest schools have been very active.
Dosbarth Oren all went on a winter walk into the woods to collect colourful autumn leaves. They then had great fun making leaf crowns to take home.
For Christmas Dosbarth Melyn made lovely Ivy wreaths. They took them home to decorate their fornt doors.
The woodland trust is a charity that is funded by lead partners. They give away tree packs to schools and communities for planting. Every pack is different. Each pack contains saplings grown from seeds which have been collected and grown in the uk.
This year our Forest School pack arrived in November. The pack contained a variety of saplings including: rowan, hazel, crab apple, elder, wild cherry, silver birch and field maple. The children busily planted 200 saplings around the school enviroment in november.
Young woodlands, that have been planted and cared for by Mrs. Pemberthy and children over the past twelve year, now provide a rich native enviroment to offer protection and shelter for animals, birds and insects.
These woodlands also offer our children a fanstastic learning environment.
WE HAVE BUSY IN THE GARDEN
During the spring we have been busy sowing seeds and looking after the seedlings and little plants that we were successful in growing.
We replanted the seedlings and spent the rest of the summer months watering them and looking after them.
Fortunately the garden flourished and we were successful in growing flowers, lettuces, strawberries, raspberries, beetroot, broad beans and a few potatoes.
The autunm term found us harvested and tasting the fruits and vegatables that we grew.
It was then time for the gardening club to spent some time tidying the garden. Finally we planted spring bulbs that we hope will provide a colourful spring time dispaly.

Forest schools
The woodland Trust has donated 300 sapling trees to our school. The children and Mrs Penberthy have been working tirelessly to get them planted around the school. The Forest schools have also been planting a Willow tunnel and a new Willow outdoor classroom. Dosbarth Melyn love wellie Wednesdays. Its not all work there is always time for fun and lots of learning.
gardening Club
We have been busy planting bulbs and spring flowers the garden is starting to give us lots of bright colours.
Over the next few weeks we are going to sow summer flowers, vegetables and salad seeds.

Spring has sprung
At last spring has sprung. We have been able to get out into the garden to plant some spring bulbs, plants and even a cherry tree.
Mrs Penberthy is focusing on Forest Schools and woodland craft. The children have already been busy working on projects to improve our school environment. If you are out and about in your garden over the Easter holiday and have any old pots plants or other items you may think useful for our club, we would be grateful for any donations. Many thanks.
