We started our new topic of mini beasts by going on a hunt in the woods. As you can see we found a great number of bugs. We have also started to make some insects to decorate the classroom.

A warm welcome to our new friends in dosbarth coch
welcome back
I hope that you all had a lovely Easter and that the children are refreshed and ready for more fun packed activities and learning opportunities. This term our new topic is called ‘Supermarkets’. To enable you to support and work alongside us, I am providing you with the project overview.
This project has a science focus that teaches children about a range of materials and their properties used for packing in shops and supermarkets and about the issues surrounding waste and re-cycling.
In this project your children will learn:
· About how various materials react to being heated, cooled, mixed, twisted, crushed and changed using a range of
processes;
· What products are sold at the supermarkets and how they are packaged;
· How to find information by interviewing, using ICT and first hand experience;
· How to follow and write a recipe;
· To identify the features of a fair test;
· How to be aware of safety and hygiene when preparing food;
· To solve simple problems using money and recognising different coins;
· How to design and make packaging and labelling using various techniques and vocabulary.
I hope that you find this overview helpful and anticipate that it will provide you with thoughts on how you can also support your children by providing opportunities when you are paying a visit to the supermarket.

Happy Easter!
Here is Dosbarth Coch showing off their wonderful Easter bonnets. Well done children (and parents!)
We hope you have a marvellous half term holiday and look forward to seeing you when school starts back on Tuesday 12th April.

It has been a busy week in school. We have celebrated St David's Day and World Book Day. We also went on a spring walk. The children looked for early signs of spring and took their own pictures with the I Pad. 04/03/2016

Continuous Provision

When we are not engaged in focused or enhanced tasks we can choose from a large selection of continuous provision.
Enhanced Tasks
Each week two of the previous week's 'Focused Tasks' become 'Enhanced Tasks'. These are known to the children as 'Jobs'. The children are encouraged to repeat both 'jobs', once each day, to consolidate the skill that has been taught. 08-02-2016
Focus Tasks
language literacy AND COMMUNICATION
We have been practicing writing long ladder letters during today's Language Literacy and Communication lesson.
Using Money
As part of our 'Mathematical Development' we bought a place for ourselves in the areas of our choice.
language literacy AND COMMUNICATION
knowledge AND understanding OF THE WORLD
We wrote letters and sent them to our own forest ranger, Mrs Pemberthy. Later in the day Mrs Pemberthy kindly came to visit us and answered the questions on the letters that we had sent. She taught us a lot about her role as a forest ranger and we found out many new things about animals and minibeasts. Thank you Mrs Pemberthy! 04-02-2016
Making Welcome cards
To encourage the children's Personal, Social and Emotional development we carried out a fun activity to put a smile on our friend's faces. We all made a 'Welcome Card' and once they were finished they were placed into the 'Lucky Dip Bag.' As the bag made it's way around the circle, the children took turns to pull a card from inside. We all loved our gifts and they brought a smile to our faces! We all feel welcome here in Dosbarth Coch. 01-02-2016
chippy Friday!
This week we read the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and talked about the materials that the pigs had decided to build their houses out of. Most of the children agreed that they would build their houses out of bricks, whilst others decided that they would use straw. Another day we sequenced and re-told the story of The Three Little Pigs'. Here are three of our children telling the story to 'Dosbarth Coch'.
A big thank you on behalf of all of the staff in Dosbarth Coch for your contribution of resources. The children will benefit greatly from your kindness. 11.01.2016
Dear Parent/Carer, 08.01.2016
The children of Dosbarth Coch have completed their first week back at school and have settled in comfortably. If you have already taken a glance at our new class website, you will be aware that our topic this term is called ‘Dens and Dandelions’. As always, a lot of work has been put into place to engage the children and to encourage the maximum exploration of interests so that each child can develop to their full potential. In order to provide the best learning opportunities, in addition to the up most care for each child, we would be extremely grateful if you could donate some of the following resources:
Flour
Vegetable Oil
Cream of Tartar
Salt
Food Colouring (any colour)
Wet Wipes
Nappy Sacks
Thank you for your continued support to the school.
We wish a warm welcome to our new friends who started in 'Dosbarth Coch' today. 07.01.2016
Dens and dandelions
Today we began our new topic, titled 'Dens and Dandelions'. The children displayed great enthusiasm as they shared thoughts and ideas on what the topic meant to them. We have gathered all of the information and are looking forward to carrying out the exciting activities that came from today's brainstorming session. It would be beneficial if you could support your child further by discussing other ideas linked to this topic. 06.01.2016
We have been sharing our Christmas news. 05.01.2016
