We have had a fantastic half term in Dosbarth Porffor. We have been very busy - take a look at our Chinese Dragons, dancing, ordering numbers and throwing and catching a ball and burning up some energy in PE!

Enjoying the weather in Dosbarth Porffor this week. We have been using a range of materials for foam and sponge painting, riding tricycles and developing curiosity by painting rubber bands and 'pinging' them! Applying suncream is important and we practiced virtually with Swashbuckle!
The new school dinner menu has arrived. It is active from 12th June 2023.

We have been developing our core muscles in PE with lots of rolling, bouncing and sliding!
We have been exploring vegetables! We started by making faces out of familiar vegetables such as broccoli, potatoes and carrots. As play developed the children introduced characters (Peppa Pig, Postman Pat etc) to eat the veggies and vehicles to drive the veggies around! Lots of pretend and imaginative play.
The children had experience of how the vegetables looked, smelt and felt.

What a wonderful walk in our woods!
We love getting our wellies on and scrunching through the leaves. We are looking at all the flowers peeping out of the ground and noticing the leaves starting to grow on the trees.

Bubble fun today in Dosbarth Porffor!
We have been investigating blowing bubbles and showing anticipation.
We loved Mrs Hallwood saying 1,2,3....and blowing them like a snowstorm and landing on our heads!

World Book Day 2023.
We enjoyed reading our whole school book "You've Got Dragons" and printing purple dragons for display. The book is about feelings and choices. We were able to make choices about our favourite toys to play with. We loved dressing up as our favourite character.

We have been developing our gross motor skills!! We have been exploring the outdoor environment and moving our bodies in different ways.

Every morning in Dosbarth Porffor we sit down and have toast. The children are using symbols, switches and speech to ask for toast and request different toppings! This week the children have started using spoons to scoop and knives to spread the butter and cut the toast. It's a lovely sociable time which we all enjoy.

We are learning all about wheels this week!! We have pushed cars and trucks through paint, explored diggers in dirt and even washed our bikes ready to use!

Welcome Back!!
September 2021 looks to be an exciting month! We have some new pupils starting in Dosbarth Porffor.
This term our topics are 'Happiness' and 'Autumn'. Keep an eye on the website for lots of photos of what we're getting up to!
Dosbarth porffor have been settling back into school this week.
We have enjoyed learning all about GUy Fawkes and Bonfire Night!! We have been using red, yellow and orange paint to paint bonfires. Mrs Geary showed us a video of a bonfire and we listened to the lovely crackling sounds.
We have been using glitter to make fireworks and also been learning all about 2D shapes.
WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT NIGHT AND DAY. We used dhiny foil to decorate a moon.
In Dosbarth Porffor this week we have been learning all about colours. We have painted our hands, mixed colours together and used lots of resources to start sorting and matching.

'Remember Remember the 5th of November' We had a great time celebrating Bonfire Night. We made bonfires with our handprints, used chalk to make marks, listened to fireworks videos on the whiteboard and used instruments to replicate the sounds, decorated firework biscuits and did a 'fireworks in a jar' science experiment!! Super fun and we were very interested! |

Today we have been having fun with pumpkins. We have explored the insides and watched a pumpkin 'volcano' !! We have been using Halloween as a stimulus. We have explored spider webs, using chalk and water, we've made spooky ghosts, tearing up paper and developing our fine motor skills. This week we have been learning about body parts. We have used symbols to label different parts of our face and bodies. |

In Dosbarth Porffor we spend a lot of time working on communication.
Pupils have recently been introduced to symbols and are beginning to use them to exchange and communicate their wants and needs. Check out this superstar pupil using symbols to complete a jigsaw!!! |

Messy Play 'AT THE BEACH'. Today we were lucky enough to have a special visit from Rhian at Wildhearted Learning. She set up a wonderful outdoor beach experience for Dosbarth Oren & Porffor.

Today it was really hot!!
Mrs Geary and Mrs Mac decided to give us a cooling down! We filled a tray with water and fresh mint and bathed our feet. It was so relaxing! |

We joined Dosbarth Melyn today to visit Llantrisant Church. Vicar Viv was very welcoming and showed us around, explaining what the different objects were called. We had the opportunity to explore the church and learn all about Christianity.

Phonics
Phonics are the early sounds we learn when language is developing. It is important that pupils have the opportunity to listen to, recognise and say different sounds. In Dosbarth Porffor we have weekly phonic sessions as well as filtering our learning throughout the week. This week the pupils have been hunting for letters in the sand and playing 'SPLAT!!' |
Using Numicon shapes. In Dosbarth Porffor we use Numicon to help us learn about number. The pupils are learnign what Numicon colour represents which number and try hard to sequence them. |

We love to see all the different animals and make noises!! Today we are developing our fine motor skills by weaving a basket for the snake. We worked hard as a team and tried to remember to wait our turn and take turns. Once the woven basket was ready we made snakes to put inside! |

We have been talking about feelings and emotions. The pupils have had the opportunity to talk about how they feel as well as how we should treat others. This afternoon we made playdough, using the playdough we all made our very own rainbow fish! |

Last week Foundation Phase were visited by the Really Wild Show. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed handling and looking at the animals. Learning about the environments in which they live in.

We have been reading Room on the Broom, it's all about a witch who's broom breaks.
We made our own broom and carried animals as we flew across the school. We developed our fine motor skills by making wands and this week made cake pop wands by cooking cupcakes and then coating them in melted chocolate. |

After reading the story of Cinderella the children looked at a clock face. We cut out the numbers and stuck them onto the clock face in the correct order.
Using a triangle we made the clock strike 12. |

This week in maths we are learning about shape and weight. We used different shapes to make patterns and talked about their properties.

We watched a Powerpoint presentation and learnt about his life. We have had a heart filled week in Dosbarth Porffor. We used hearts for sorting, matching and sequencing. We have made Valentine cards, magic mirrors and gifts for our loved ones. |

Welcome back to all our lovely pupils. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Thank you to those parents who have sent in photos of the children over Christmas, it's been lovely seeing what Santa brought them and what lovely things you have all been up to.
This term our topic is called 'Read Me A Story' and it's all about Fairy tales. We are starting off the term reading Little Red Riding Hood, and hoping to do lots of work out in the woods.
This term in Language we will be continue to work on our communication skills as well as our reading skills. In Maths we will be introduing NUMICON which is a new number scheme that will help us learn all about numbers and counting.
New SIP's will be sent home shortly for you to read, sign and return and Parent's Evening will be toewards the end of this half term, letters will follow with appointments.

We made scary Halloween monsters from play dough
The pupils had to use rollers and cutters to make different shaped monsters, they added on googly eyes to make them scary! |

We have been learning all about Bonfire Night and fireworks. Mrs Geary sang us a song and we had to use instruments to make noises like a firework.

We are learning all about Autumn! Today we went on an adventure into the forest to look for autumn leaves. We saw lots of lovely autumn colours like brown, red and orange. Some of the leaves were crunchy and some were soft!

As well as being busy with our assessments we have chosen a book for this half term. We are reading 'Oliver's Fruit Salad'. It's a very exciting,colourful book and pupils are already very interested in it. Over the term we will be using this book as a base for our Language and Maths activities. Keep an eye out for more photos of the pupils' working hard!
The pupils' used clay to make oranges after reading our story which is all about a little boy who goes shopping and makes a delicious fruit salad. The pupils had to roll, squeeze and manipulate the clay in order to make balls and turn them into oranges.

What are we up to in Dosbarth Porffor............
This week the pupils have been on bug hunts, been planting seeds and flowers and exploring the great outdoors. The pupils spent time in our forest collecting twigs and sticks. In class the children used the sticks to collage a prickly hedgehog.

Our book this term is 'The Three Little Pigs'. We have been learning about the story and the characters. We have made spoon puppets, built houses, washed the pigs and lots more!!

STEM WEEK
We painted on foil.

Making colours.
We put drops of food colouring into cold milk. When we added washing up liquid the food colouring started to move along the surface and mix together to make new colours. |
We learnt about melting. We put water in ice cube trays in the freezer and then turned to ice.
We put 3 different coloured ice cubes in the sun and watched them melt and turn back into liquid. Sensory Bags.
We chose a colour and then ut the coloured water into a laminated nag. We added oil and lots of colourful and sparkly things like stars and glitter. Once the bag was sealed it became a sensory bag. |
We have been experimenting with sound. We used sound sticks to tap different objects outside and listen to the sounds they made.
Back in class Mrs Geary sang us a songand we had to tap our sticks to the beat. |

We have been learning about plants. We learnt about the different parts of a flower and went outside to plant our own seeds.

We have started our new topic which is all about materials. This week we are sorting plastic and cardboard. Next week we will be using these materials to learn about the importance of recycling and looking after our planet and also in junk modelling.

This week in Dosbarth Porffor we have been working on our fine motor skills. We used chalkboard and paintbrushes. Mrs Geary used chalk to write letters, lines, circles and dots on the chalk board and we had to use a paintbrush in water and go over the chalk to make the it disappear.
Using ICT to enhance our learning. The pupils used the Interactive Whitebaord and a programme called 2Simple to make symmetrical patterns.

This week we are measuring.
We used multilink cubes to make long sticks and then went outside and used them as measuring sticks. We had to find things that were longer than our measuring sticks. Everybody made a different length measuring stick. We ordered them according to their length. |

This week we are learning about mirrors and symmetry.
We have been continuing the learn about caterpillars through our book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.
Last week we used large pictures of fruit to sequence with the days of the week. We made stick puppets and used the outdoor environment to act out and sequence the story by moving our caterpillars around the grounds muching their way through the fruit. |

We are reading 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We are using the story to cover lots of different areas of learning, this week in particular we have been sequencing events. You can help your child at home by talking about night and day, by saying 'next we are going to...' and by asking questions like 'what happens after breakfast?'.
In class the children have been using interactive resources such as short films to see the sequence of the hungry caterpillar eating the fruit over the week.

We have been working hard on recognising our names. Some of us can use letters to sequence our names, some of us can add the initial sound. Some pupils in Dosbarth Porffor are learning how to develop their eye contact and concentration skills as well as tracking objects.

This term our Cornerstones topic is called ‘Dens & Dandelions’ it’s all about leaves, flowers and the great outdoors.
We are going to be reading the story ‘The Very hungry caterpillar’. As the Literacy & Numeracy Framework (LNF) is now in place we will be doing lots of our maths and language activities linked to both our book and our topic, repeating and developing the skills over the term.
In maths we will be working on number, sequencing and also time.
In Language we will be working on learning about ourselves and will be working on our individual speech & Language programmes.

At home, please help your child by counting, singing and reading stories. Some pupils in class are working on responding to their names so this is something parents can also help support.
At the end of term, as part of our Cornerstones topic we are going to be holding a fairy-tale and goblin party!!
We look forward to a fun and exciting term!! Hopefully we will be able to be outdoors and explore the world outside!

This term our Cornerstones topic is called ‘Dens & Dandelions’ it’s all about leaves, flowers and the great outdoors.
We are going to be reading the story ‘The Very hungry caterpillar’. As the Literacy & Numeracy Framework (LNF) is now in place we will be doing lots of our maths and language activities linked to both our book and our topic, repeating and developing the skills over the term.
In maths we will be working on number, sequencing and also time.
In Language we will be working on learning about ourselves and will be working on our individual speech & Language programmes.
