Croeso i tudalen Dosbarth Glas
20-2-24 - We've had a busy week! Taking part in a cricket wales workshop as well as a special FX make up workshop where we learned how to create fake wounds!
1-2-24 - we've been experimenting with water colour paints, using drips of water to 'bleed' the paint into the canvas paper. It worked so well to create these beautiful honey bees, linking to our study of the natural world!
1-2-24 Our topic display is coming along nicely!
Spring Term 2024 - Here's some information about our upcoming topic 'Survival of the Fittest' as well as some general information.
Our Topic launch day - Rule makers and breakers!
The children enjoyed tasting foods that were once enjoyed by Ancient Greek and Egyptian citizens. They designed Greek pots that are now on display in the classroom and enjoyed exploring the British Museum's Egyptian room using their online tour.
Autumn 2023 - Welcome back to Dosbarth glas!
Below is an overview of our upcoming topic, Rule Makers and Breakers. The topic focusses on the concept of 'Governance' and how the rulers of Ancient Egypt and Greece governed their people. We will draw comparisons to leaders throughout history, including modern day presidents and prime-ministers, as well as studying the role of women throughout history. Please study the knowledge organisers below, as we will be having quizzes throughout the term. You will also find some home learning ideas by clicking on the website below. Thanks for your continued support! Mr Howells.

Make an origami peace dove decoration
Every year, the children decorate a tree for the Christmas tree festival at Llantrisant Church. This year, our theme is PEACE with a colour scheme of white and/or silver.
The children have used YouTube to follow instructions as to how to make a dove and I am sending home paper for them to make another one at home. If they want to use the white paper to practice and use silver paper to create another, that would be lovely, and the decoration needs to have white or silver string attached for hanging.
The video is linked to our web page with full instructions and they have written out the steps in their Notes and Ideas books.
I would appreciate it if all of the children could complete the task as they will be writing up their instructions on Monday as part of our ongoing language work. Every year, we take pride in the effort that goes in to decorating our tree and yet again, we are hoping to win the annual RCT competition.
I look forward to seeing their wonderful creations and happy folding.

- Active Learn: Direct access via the link on home page. Children have been given user names and new passwords which has been texted to you all. The new games allocated support the mental strategies we have been working on over trhe past 3 weeks -e.g partitioning when adding and subtracting and multiplication. I can print out reports to assess the children's progress directly from the site.
- I have hopefully sent out new reading books to all children. Could you please check at home for any outstanding reading record books. If they have been mislaid, I will renew them on Monday.
- Continue to work on the spellings on the grid below.
Welcome back to the new term in Year 5/6. We have a very busy term ahead of us. Below are some dates for your diaries. Please keep checking the website for links and photographs to the work being done in school. I will endeavour to update the site as regularly as possible and I hope that you find it both useful and informative.
- Reading books will be given out on a Wednesday (ORT scheme). Please ensure your reading records are returned to school. If you are reading novels you can keep your books longer but I would like to see a review to accompany your completed book.
- P.E has been changed to a Tuesday afternoon.
- Dance is every other Wednesday and requires a P.E kit.
- The new curriculum spelling list has been uploaded below. We will be working on these spellings over the course of the year. You can help your child by working through them at home.
- Next Friday is Macmillan Day. You are all welcome to come into school and learn about how we will be organising our maths homework this year.
- Wednesday, October 11th is our trip to Brecon. The children would benefit from simple fancy dress (40's style clothing) including a packed lunch typical of the era if possible. The children can find out what they would have eaten and plan their lunchbox accordingly as part of the learning experience.
- Half term homework will be a craft project linked to the topic Blitz. Further details to follow.
- Below you will find a copy of the topic planner handed out at the beginning of term.
- Please note, many of the activities on the website have been hyperlinked for direct access to activities and learning resources.

DO TALLER PEOPLE HAVE A LARGER LUNG CAPACITY? We were on a mission to find out! We tested our lung capacity by breathing into a bottle using a plastic tube, a 5l bottle and a large tube of water. We found the mean average and ordered ourselves according to the result. Guess what? The tallest in the class were at the top of the line and the shortest were at the bottom! We drew our conclusions but the children now want to test Mr Howells as he is the tallest in the school to add validity to their results!
A very warm welcome back to what is going to be a very exciting term ahead! We are beginning a brand new topic linked to the "Lead Creative Schools" initiative. This involves working alongside two cluster schools, Llanharan and Brynnau, using the title "To Catch a Dream." This will involve an expressive arts approach resulting in many writing opportunities across the curriculum. Activities such as script writing, blogging and dance will hopefully culminate in an end of term celebration of work similar to that undertaken last year through our "Celts, Castles and Crecy" topic. Keep using the website for updates and photos of our progress through the term. The children will keep you posted!
